We are really jealous of Finlay in Year 6 who recently got to meet Andy Cope when he was in hospital! Andy Cope (the author of the amazing Spy Dog books) came and met the children, spoke to them and even signed a copy of one of their books!
This is a photo of Finlay with Andy and a photo of Andy's signature in Finlay's Spy Dog book. If you want to find out more about the author of the Spy Dog books, find Finlay on the playground! I am sure he will tell you all about him.

Pen Licence Awards!
All of the children at Glade Hill take great pride in the handwriting and presentation of their work. When children have been joining up their handwriting and presenting their work neatly for some time, they are awarded with a sparkly pencil (if they are in Year 2) and a pen licence (in Key Stage 2). They now get the privilege of using their pen or pencil in their books at school!
We are so proud of them and their achievements!

Gold Reading Award!
What an afternoon we have had! To celebrate the children who have earned their GOLD reading award, Ms Sheppard, Miss Walton and the prize winners took a trip to Waterstones in the city centre to buy a book! They did so well reading 3 times a week, every week for 30 weeks!
The children explored the childrens' book section for over an hour selecting a book to buy! When they had chosen a top three they got to sit in the quiet section and begin to read their books to see which hooked them the most! Then they made their final choice!
We all thoroughly enjoy our trip to Waterstones, using public transport to get there and back and the lady at Waterstones was so knowledgeable and helpful.
If you want to join us next year on a trip to Waterstones to buy your own book, then make sure you read 3 times a week every week!
Look what we've got!!!!

Congratulations to all the children who have read 3 times a week for 20 weeks. They have been awarded with their reading awards! Lots of children in Foundation to Year 3 chose a warm woolly jumper for their RED TED to wear; children in Years 4,5 and 6 chose a book to take home and keep from a range of favourite authors (David Walliams, Roald Dahl, Michael Morpurgo and Jacqueline Wilson).
Other children have achieved their Bronze reading award or their RED TED award.

Round 1 of Pen Licence Awards!
Round 2 of Pen Licence Awards!
We are very proud to announce that as of 7.1.15 we have started a newreading reward schemeacross the whole school!
Reading is at the heart of our new curriculum and the children are thoroughly enjoying learning through our new book topic and we would like to encourage children to read further at home for pleasure.
We have introduced a new reading reward scheme for all children to reward their reading efforts at home. One reward scheme will run in EYFS, Y1, Y2 and Y3, and a different reward scheme will run in Y4, Y5 and Y6. This is to make sure that the rewards match the children's interests.
Carry on reading to find out about the two different reward schemes...
Reading Reward Scheme (EYFS, Y1, Y2, Y3)
(Read Every Day, Talk Every Day)
How it works:
- Children are expected to read at home to an adult 3 or more times a week (which will need to be recorded in their reading diaries by an adult).
- Teachers will check reading diaries (on a set day each week) and if your children have read three times they will get a sticker on their teddy bear in their classroom.
- Children have to work towards earning ten stickers on their chart in order to win their RED TED reading award - their very own teddy bear!
- After that the children will get a new teddy bear chart and the process will begin again but this time they will be working towards winning and item of clothing for their teddy bear!
- This will continue till the end of the year so they can collect additional items for their teddy bear.
After launching this reward scheme in assembly on Wednesday I know all the children are excited about earning their own teddy bear!
BRONZE, SILVER and GOLD
Reading Reward Scheme (Y4, Y5, Y6)
How it works:
- Children are expected to read at home to an adult 3 or more times a week (which will need to be recorded in their reading diaries by the adult).
- Teachers will check reading diaries (on a set day each week) and if your children have read three times they will get a sticker on their Bronze book mark.
- Children have to work towards earning ten stickers on their bookmark in order to win their Bronze reading award. They will also be rewarded with a reading certificate.
- After that the children will be working towards achieving a Silver reading reward so the process will start again and they will need to collect ten stickers on their silver bookmark.
- Once they have achieved this the process will repeat again until they have been rewarded with the Gold reading award.
- At each stage the rewards are reading related and increase the further up the reward scheme they go! They are always a surprise!
We will be handing out two parent reading awards in each class, each week to say thank you to those parents who are hearing their children read frequently at home. Look out - the teachers may be displaying the names of the winning parents/carers on their classroom windows!
