Towards the end of the summer term 2016, a researcher from Derby University Dr D Robinson came into Glade Hill to conduct some research on book trust packs for children with additional needs. She spoke to parents, children and staff about the value of reading, reading for pleasure and accessibility of books.
The research has now been completed and Dr Robinson has sent a letter to our school to thank us for our involvement. She stated in the letter that the insight of the staff was of great value to the findings. She also found that parents were appreciative of the support offered to them and their children at school and were keen to participate. She said she learned a great deal from observing them and talking with them. When observing some older children, she commented that it was clear that books were an important part of their school life and the member of teaching staff working with them was supportive and responsive in working with them as they engaged in reading and enjoying books. She finished her letter with the following:
'Many thanks to Glade Hill Primary and Nursery School. It is true that you are all golden and you sparkle.'
What great feedback! A big thank you to all the children, parents and staff involved!
