Autumn 2: Once upon a tale

Our new theme is Once Upon a Tale…  We will be learning lots of songs and nursery rhymes, reading some of our favourite traditional tales such as The Gingerbread Man and The Three Little Pigs plus Stickman. In our daily phonic sessions, we will continue learning Phase 2 sounds by adding new sounds and consolidating previously learned sounds through blending and segmenting. We will be investigating waterproof materials and baking Gingerbread men, as well as celebrating Bonfire Night, Diwali and Christmas.  In Literacy, we will be drawing and labelling story maps to re-tell some of our favourite tales. In math’s, we will continue our learning around subitising, counting and recognising the numerals up to 5. Furthermore, we will be exploring the composition or ‘parts’ and ‘wholes’ of the numbers within 5, for example 4 is a whole number but 2 is a part and 2 is another part.
