Autumn 2 in the Brilliant Bonsais

This half term at Glade Hill we are focusing on 'diversity'. Each week has a different theme, including Diwali, Remembrance Day, disability week, Channukah week, polish week and Christmas around the world! As part of this we are using a family box and have chosen a child to bring in something all about them every day. We have loved learning about different children so far!

We are HISTORIANS…

In History we are learning about Robin Hood. We finished the week with a Robin Hood themed day! The children took over the camera and captioned these moments den building in the woods themselves.

Our Trip to Nottingham Castle!

WE ARE READERS and WRITERS...

In English we are reading the story book Rapunzel by Bethan Woollvin. We will be focusing on traditional tales and will be re-writing the story using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. In Phonics we are learning the sounds that will help us with our reading book band, which is either phase 5, 3 or 2. All of our sounds and tricky words are in the back of our reading diaries and it would be really useful to practice these at home with the children.

We are MATHEMATICIANS...

In Maths we are focusing on ordinal and carnival values of numbers, alongside developing our deeper understanding of number through the mastery number programme. We have been focusing on subitising numbers quickly and using this throughout our maths lessons.

We are SCIENTISTS…

In Science we are learning all about the seasons – specifically the change from autumn to winter. We chose our favourite tree in autumn 1 and we will be spending time watching it change through the seasons. We are also monitoring the weather and day length. We have been using a class weather chart and Miss Newman has been taking Tommy Trice home with her to see if his bedtime changes as our days get shorter.
