  • Letter from the Headteacher - end of Spring 2 2023

Tue 28 Mar 2023 Mrs Stapleton

Dear Parents and Carers of Glade Hill,

As I write this letter, we are fast approaching our Easter holidays with lots of lovely activities planned for the final week of term. What an amazing half-term it has been! I look forward to seeing many of you at Parents Evening tonight and tomorrow night.

Following the success of our updated clubs programme, in response to an area of development from our successful OFSTED report, we have sent out a letter regarding a new set of clubs for after Easter. We have focused on providing the opportunity for children to try some new and different activities such as cookery, forest school and pottery, alongside some learning focused ones like maths and a book club. I know all the children who attended clubs this term really enjoyed themselves and the new clubs are quickly filling up. If any children missed the letter, please contact the office to see what is available and get them signed up.

We have had so many lovely activities this half-term on our theme ‘The Love of Books’ involving parents, carers and our wider school community. These have included parent reading events in-school, Year 2 visiting the local library (rearranged for Thurs), Year 6 reading to care home residents and lots of exciting activities on World Book Day including the Great Glade Hill Book Swap. Lots of these were organised by Miss Siriboe, who will be leaving Glade Hill at Easter. We thank her and wish her every success for the future.

Finally, this week we also launched our first ‘five day’ attendance challenge as a further incentive to encourage children to be at school as much as possible. All children who attend school every day this week (or every session for Nursery children), will be given a small treat and also entered into a prize drawer to win an Easter Egg. How exciting! As you know improving attendance remains very important to our school and is one of the key priorities on our School Development Plan. We will be presenting children with our 100% attendance badges for this term in the first assemblies after Easter and hoping to run another challenge in the Summer term.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and I wish you all a restful break.

    Kindest Regards,

    Mrs Stapleton

  • Sustran Big Walk and Wheel 2023

Thu 23 Mar 2023 Mrs Stapleton

This year we are taking part for the first time in the Sustran Big Walk and Wheel 2023!

We want to encourage all of our children and families to be fit and active, whilst also trying to reduce congestion around our school site.

All children need to do to get involved is walk, scoot or cycle to school and then let their class teacher know. We then log this information on the Sustran website. For every day we get over 15% of our school population involved, we get entered for prizes.

Walking journeys, journeys made by wheelchair, scooter/skate journeys and cycling journeys to school all count in the Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel challenge. For those that park and walk/wheel, their journey to school can also be logged.

We are already doing really well with over 50% of our school taking part. This means we are currently ranked 317th in the Country and 68th in the East Midlands. Keep up the good work everyone!

  • Comic Relief!

Fri 17 Mar 2023 Mrs Stapleton

    Happy Comic Relief Day!

We have had such a good time today raising money for this important cause. Thank you to everyone who brought donations in.

We've been dressing to impress in red and KS1 have organised some great games including stick a red nose on the Headteacher!

Thank you to all the KS1 children and staff for organising today.

Well done to all our winners of

    the 'Book Character Plate' competition!

  • Year 5 Handball Festival

Fri 03 Mar 2023 Mrs Stapleton

Year 5 Handball Festival - Glade Hill Team SPARKLES!

Yesterday Miss Atkin and Mrs York took a team of 14 children from across Year 5 to a Handball Festival at Harvey Haddon.

During the afternoon, the children learned about the sport and developed new skills before trying out some matches against other schools.

Miss Atkin and Mrs York were blown away by the hard work of our team who gained confidence and skills as the afternoon went on. They were great representatives for Glade Hill and showed the other City schools how to be golden and SPARKLY.

Well done Team Handball, we are all so proud of you!

  • World Book Day 2023!

Thu 02 Mar 2023 Mrs Stapleton

    World Book Day 2023!

What an amazing day we had at Glade Hill. Lots of costumes and comfy clothes. Lots of reading and work on Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Even a puppet show for Year 1 by Year 4. What a treat!

Our older children also really enjoyed visiting the younger classes to do some paired reading with their reading buddies.

Check out some of the photos below of our exciting day, a key part of this half-term's theme 'The Love of Books'.
