Homework

Homework expectations

In Year 5, children are set maths, reading and spelling homework.

Maths homework

Every Friday, children will receive a piece of maths homework, based on any learning we have done in lessons or past learning they need to recap. This is vital to ensuring that learning is consolidated and remembered by children.

Homework will be given as a paper sheet and/or set on MyMaths. It will be due in for the following Thursday.

If you have any questions about this homework or need a MyMaths login reminder, please see me or email the Magnolias email.

Reading

Children are expected to read 3 or more times at home each week, which needs to be written in their diaries and signed. On Fridays, reading diaries will be checked and if we have the highest reading percentage (as a class) we win a prize!

In Year 5, as the children are becoming more independent, they are allowed to write in their diaries themselves, if they have read alone at home. These entries will be checked.

Please can you also ensure that your child has their reading book and diary in school with them every day, as this is essential if they are read with during the school day.

Spelling

At the beginning of the year, each child was assessed against their spelling words and colours they have been working through during their time at Glade Hill. Each child was given a list of words they need to practice in order to move up to the next colour. These should be practiced at home.

If a child feels they are ready to be tested, they can let myself or Mrs Mckenna know so that they can be assessed and moved forward.

Any questions about homework, please do not hesitate to email or see me, thanks! :)
