We are READERS!
Phonics is very important in Year 1 as children will take
the Phonics Screening Check in the Summer Term. To
support our teaching of phonics we encourage children to
read at least 3x a week at home, alongside the word card
we send home with our school reading books. These are
linked directly with the phonemes the children have been learning that week.

We are WRITERS!
Heading into the spring term, we will be learning how to take care of animals. We will be exploring the book ‘Can I be your Dog?’ and will be learning the skill of writing a letter. We will also be writing a fact file and receiving a special visit from some animals at White Post Farm.

We are MATHEMATICIANS!
This term we will be exploring addition and subtraction and continuing our mastery number programme.

We are SCIENTISTS! We will be learning all about body parts.

We are HISTORIANS! We will be learning all about the Great Fire of London.

We are ARTISTS! We will be creating collaged artwork in the style of Eric Carle and Takashi Murakami.
