In Year 3, we carry on with the Red Ted Scheme. Every 10 weeks your child can fill up a bear and win a toy and other accessories for it if they have read 3 or more times every week.
The 3 (or more) reads need to be recorded in your child's home school diary and signed by an adult whom they have read to.
Diaries will be checked every Friday for 3 or more reads, please ensure your child brings it in so they can have their star added to their Red Ted!
Diaries are also expected to be in school every day. This year, we have adapted them so that they include many helpful learning tools such as; maths vocabulary lists, spelling lists, space for book band checks and key maths facts. Please make use of these resources at home as well! I may also use diaries to write notes in if I need to explain something to parents/carers, so please encourage your child to bring them home and back every day!

In maths this half term, we will be recapping some Year 2 objectives, such as: bridging ten by adding and subtracting. We will also be learning about the place value of 3 digit numbers, as well as adding and subtracting 3 digit numbers.
This half term our English is inspired by the book 'Malala's Magic Pencil' written by the activist Malala Yousafzai. We will be looking into the characters and how their country differs to ours, as well as using it to write poetry, a biography of Malala and a story! We will be learning how to use interesting vocabulary and making sure our work is coherent for our reader.
Our science learning this half term will be all about Nutrition! We will be investigating and learning the types of nutrients found in different foods and about the food groups. We will also be looking at what a balanced diet is and how we can have one!
In art, we are studying the realist drawing artist Kelvin Okafor in order to help us with our drawing techniques, particularly sketching and shading. In addition, we will be completing a textile unit on weaving. In DT we will learn about how to make a nutritious meal in a food technology day.
In geography, we will be learning all about the counties and cities of the UK! We will be able to name them as well as locate them using maps and atlases.
