Home School Diaries

In year 3, we carry on with the Red Ted reading award scheme. Every 10 weeks your child can fill a bear and receive a reward for it if they have read 3 or more times every week.

The 3 (or more) reads need to be recorded in your child's home school diary and signed by the adult they have read to.

Diaries will be checked every Friday for 3 or more reads. Please ensure your child brings their diary in so they can have their star added to their Red Ted.

Diaries are also expected to be in school every day as I may use them to communicate a message with parents/carers.

Autumn 2 - Rise of the Robots

We are mathematicians

In maths this half term we will be continuing the numbers to 1000 unit. We will be starting to look at units of measure and number facts within 1000.

We are writers

Our English lessons this half term will be inspired by the book ‘Iron Man' by Ted Hughes

Within this, we will be learning how to write diaries, science fiction and a persuasive advert. We will be learning about the features of both these types of text and we will be trying to replicate these in our own writing.

We are athletes

This half term, we will be playing dodgeball in PE. Our PE lessons will be on a Monday with Mr Strachan and Thursday with Miss Dymond. Children should make sure their kit is in school for each session. I would recommend bringing PE kits to school on a Monday and keeping them in school all week.

We are scientists

Our science unit for the half term is about energy and we will be learning all about light and dark. The big question we will be investigating is 'How do we see all the bright lights at Goose Fair?'  We will be finding out about how shadows are formed, how light is reflected and about objects which are transparent, translucent and opaque.

We are geographers

In geography we are learning all about different types of settlements in the UK including cities, towns, villages and hamlets. We will be locating these using OS maps and thinking about the land use in each of these settlements.

We are historians

In history we will be completing a local history study about Nottingham. We will be learning about the concept of chronology and exploring events that have happened in Nottingham over time.

Home School Diaries

In Year 3, we carry on with the Red Ted Scheme. Every 10 weeks your child can fill up a bear and win a toy and other accessories for it if they have read 3 or more times every week.

The 3 (or more) reads need to be recorded in your child's home school diary and signed by an adult whom they have read to.

Diaries will be checked every Friday for 3 or more reads, please ensure your child brings it in so they can have their star added to their Red Ted!

Diaries are also expected to be in school every day. This year, we have adapted them so that they include many helpful learning tools such as; maths vocabulary lists, spelling lists, space for book band checks and key maths facts. Please make use of these resources at home as well! I may also use diaries to write notes in if I need to explain something to parents/carers, so please encourage your child to bring them home and back every day!laugh
