Home School Diaries

In year 3, we carry on with the Red Ted reading award scheme. Every 10 weeks your child can fill a bear and receive a reward for it if they have read 3 or more times every week.

The 3 (or more) reads need to be recorded in your child's home school diary and signed by the adult they have read to.

Diaries will be checked every Friday for 3 or more reads. Please ensure your child brings their diary in so they can have their star added to their Red Ted.

Diaries are also expected to be in school every day as I may use them to communicate a message with parents/carers.

Summer 2 - Extreme Earth

We are mathematicians

In maths this half term we will continue learning about fractions. We will be learning about what makes a fraction, finding fractions of amounts, unit and non-unit fractions and equivalent fractions. We will also be continuing to practice previously learned concepts in our maths blast sessions.

We are writers

Our English lessons this half term will be inspired by the book ‘Escaping the Giant Wave' by Peg Kehret.

Lots of our writing lessons will be recapping the techniques we have already learnt this year, such as: description, subordinating conjunctions and sentence openers.

We are athletes

This half term, we will be doing athletics in our PE lessons. These lessons will be outside on the field so make sure you have appropriate kit.

We are scientists

Our science unit for the half term is about plants. The big question we will be investigating is 'Why do plants have flowers?'  We will be doing some experiments and lots of research to support our learning in this topic.

We are geographers

In geography we will be building our knowledge of physical characteristics looking at volcanoes. We will be learning how a volcano is formed and what causes volcanic eruptions.
