In Year 3, we carry on with the Red Ted Scheme. Every 10 weeks your child can fill up a bear and win a toy and other accessories for it if they have read 3 or more times every week.
The 3 (or more) reads need to be recorded in your child's home school diary and signed by an adult whom they have read to.
Diaries will be checked every Friday for 3 or more reads, please ensure your child brings it in so they can have their star added to their Red Ted!
Diaries are also expected to be in school every day. This year, we have adapted them so that they include many helpful learning tools such as; maths vocabulary lists, spelling lists, space for book band checks and key maths facts. Please make use of these resources at home as well! I may also use diaries to write notes in if I need to explain something to parents/carers, so please encourage your child to bring them home and back every day!

We will be reading ‘Stig of the Dump’ as well as lots of other books based during the Stone Age. We will discover key features of these genres and we will be trying to replicate these in our own writing!
We will be using lots of exciting vocabulary, punctuation and grammar, such as punctuating speech correctly to make our writing FANTASTIC.
Our science learning this half term will be all about Rocks and Fossils! Our Big Question we will be investigating is: What are Rocks and Soils like? We will be learning about the 3 different types of rocks and how they are formed, how fossils are formed and understanding what makes up soil.
In Art, we are working on our painting skills, understanding and investigating complimentary colours, shades and tones and recording our findings in sketchbooks.
In history this term, we are learning about changes from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. We will be learning about how farming, art, homes and clothes progressed through the millions of years these eras lasted and what impact it has had on us today!
