We have covered many different topics in maths so far in year 3. Have a go at the revision activities on the sheet and see what you can remember learning. All children have taken a sheet home. There are spare copies in school if they needed.

Maths

This week in maths we have looked at different strategies to use when doing subtraction questions. One that we have looked at involves partitioning the number which you are taking away and using a number line to find the answer. Have a go at solving these questions on the sheet using this method. An example has been done for you on the sheet to remind you of how to use this method. Spare copies of the sheet are available in school.

Over the past few weeks, we have spent some time practicing our four times table. By now, you should be pretty confident with your 2, 3, 4 and 5 times tables. A couple of weeks ago we were learning how to convert metres into centimetres and vice versa. Have a go at the work sheet and see what you can remember from our lessons. Remember the key facts - 1m = 100cm and 1cm = 10mm.

This week in maths, we have been learning how to round to the nearest hundred. For your homework, please complete the rounding challenges on the sheet that children have taken home. Remember the mid-point rule! If the number is after the mid-point, you round up to the next multiple of 100. If the number is before the midpoint, you round down to the previous multiple of 100. If you need another copy of the homework sheet, please ask as we have spare copies in school.

Project Homework

Our theme for this half term is all about robots! For your homework, I would like you to create your own robot using materials you have available at home. You could use cereal boxes, toilet rolls, tin foil, plastic cups, tin cans, shoe boxes - anything you have available! These will be displayed in school! Children have taken home a sheet with some examples of previously completed robots which you can use for inspiration!

As this is a larger project, you have 2 weeks to complete this homework.

This week in maths we've been learning about complements to 100. These are a pair of numbers which add together to make 100 (number bonds to 100). We've learned a rule to help us find complements to 100 - The ones numbers need to add together to make 10. The tens numbers need to add together to make 9 tens (90). Have a go at the complements to 100 question on the sheet. Remember the rule as you do each question. There are spare sheets in school if you need another.

This week in maths, we have been learning to count in 50s, 25s and 20s. Have a go at the questions on the worksheet and see how much you can remember from our maths lessons. Make sure you read each question carefully. All children have taken a sheet home to complete their homework on. Times Table Practice

At Glade Hill we are launching a new times table scheme to practice at home and in school. This is called 'Tackling Tables.' Children have been introduced to this in school this week and now have logins in the back of their reading diaries to practice at home. Please log on to tackling tables and have a go at some of the activities. If you complete the test mode, there is an opportunity to receive certificates in our celebration assemblies.
