Summer 2

We are WRITERS and READERS…

In English we are reading the story book ‘Tiger Walk’. We will spend the half term re-writing the story, creating our own characters and using all the skills we have learned throughout the year in Y1.

Phonics Screening Check

We will be starting the phonics screening check the first week back after half term. We have been practicing this throughout the year, and all the children are excited to take part!

We are MATHEMATICIANS…

In Maths we are focusing money and time during the second half of the summer 2. In Year 1 children learn to recognise coins and notes, and we learn the time to o’clock, half past and quarter past and quarter to. Weekly homework is still set on MyMaths.

We are SCIENTISTS…

In Science we are learning all the seasonal changes from spring to summer. We will be spending lots of time outside during excite and engage activities, exploring the weather and the changes to day length. We have really enjoyed creating our science floor book this year, and speaking about everything we have learnt. Keep an eye out on our school webpage for lots of pictures during the summer term!

We are HISTORIANS… In History we are learning about changes in living memory. We are going to look at our own toys and compare them to Victorian toys as well!

We are ATHLETES… In PE we will be taking part in athletics. We will be practicing skills which we will need when taking part in sports day!

We are DESIGNERS…We are learning to create a puppet based on Little Red Riding Hood.
