Here are some ideas for maths when you are out and about or at home.

  • Spotting patterns - red brick, blue brick  /  odd numbered houses
  • Spotting shapes - floor tiles / windows
  • Baking - weighing and measuring
  • Playing board and dice games like snake and ladders - counting
  • Card games
  • Dominoes - recognising numbers without counting e.g. the five pattern
  • Using a stop watch or a timer for running, skipping etc.
  • Using rulers and tape measure - How far can you jump?  Can you make a tower that is 70cm high?
  • Sorting objects into groups
  • Supermarket label spotting - Can you find something that is a litre?  weighs 500g?
