Carnival Week!
This week we are having a carnival week. We will be celebrating Year 1 by dancing, creating head pieces and leaf collars, trying Caribbean food, using steel drums and ending the week with an outdoor carnival!
Summer 2
The Secret Life of Toys
In English we have been reading the story 'Lost in the Toy Museum' by David Lucas. We are still focusing on using capital letters and full stops, along with remembering to use finger spaces consistently. We will re-writing the story using descriptive sentences.
In Shared Reading lessons we have been reading 'Naughty Bus'. It has been making us laugh a lot! We have been using our inference skills to decide what the naughty bus is up to. We can't wait to read until the end.
In Maths we have been learning about numbers all the way to 100! We have enjoyed comparing numbers and sequencing them in different ways. We are very proud that we can now count in 2's, 5's and 10's!
In Science we have been comparing materials and deciding what different toys could be made from. We have been looking at old fashioned toys in History and seeing how toys have changed. In Art we are beginning to design and sculpture our own toys.
We have been enjoying using our outdoor area whilst the weather is lovely! Outside we learn about different types of bugs, we look after our outdoor garden and grow vegetables, we learn about money through our role play shop, we design and build objects in the construction area, and learn about capacity in our water area, just to name a few... all through play!
Summer 1
Our Amazing Easter Craft Entries!
A few reminders:
- P.E will continue to be on Wednesday afternoons. We will not be getting changed but children can wear trainers.
- Please return any school books that children have at home. We can then swap them and continue to do so every week for children who need it.
- We are asking for all GCP books to be returned also. Y1 children just received a phonics book which we will continue to use in school.
- We are really looking forward to hearing the children read again. Remember to read every day and talk every day (3x a week minimum) so children can get a sticker on their RED TEDs.

Autumn 1
Beside the Seaside
This half term we will be learning all about the seaside! We are learning to write postcards, and write short stories using the books At the Beach by Roland Harvey and Billy's Bucket by Kes Gray to excite and engage us! So far we have travelled to the seaside by aeroplane and decided what we need to pack to enjoy our time there.
