English Extra Information
Watch the following video clip- https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zm3nvcw
This will explain how you write a balanced argument text. I would then like you to choose a question of your choice and write FOR and AGAINST arguments for it on the Purple Mash Blank Debate Template. Remember when we did the debate in class about if Michael should travel around the world? Well this will be like a written version of the debate (but on a different topic!)
Here are some ideas…
Should animals be kept in zoos?
Should children be allowed mobile phones in school?
Should it be made illegal to not recycle?
Now I would like you to turn your two arguments into a balanced argument text. Please record this on the Purple Mash Blank Template. Remember to include some of the FOR and AGAINST words from the video clip to link your arguments together.
-On the one hand
-On the other hand
-As well as
-Some people say
-Other people say
Today I would like you to research arguments for the question:
‘Should children be taught survival skills in school?’
You can include your own opinions, ask other people or research online (with your grown-ups permission). You might want to think about the following questions...
What are survival skills?
When might survival skills be useful?
Could learning survival skills be dangerous?
Separate yesterday’s research into FOR and AGAINST arguments and record on the Purple Mash debate template.
