Goldilocks and the Three Bears

 

This week our story is Goldilocks and the Three Beads.

Our special words are:

Hot - we made delicious porridge but it was too hot! We went for a walk in the woods to let it cool but we came back and it had all been eaten.

Hard/Soft - we had a taste test to see which foods were soft or hard. We tried some hard apples and soft cupcakes.

We have been practicing our cutting skills this week cutting our bears and ordering them by size.

We made bear headbands to go for a woodland walk to visit the bears whilst our porridge cooled.

We also had a visit from your grown ups to show off your classroom for September which was exciting.

We ended the week we Ice Pops to help us cool down from the heat!

Monkey Puzzle and Sports day

 

What better way to start the week than with sports day! Everybody was amazing, we are so proud of all of you for joining in! And well done to the parents who raced in the parents race, you were very impressive.

This week our story is Monkey Puzzle.

Our special words are

Curl - we have been wrapping pipe cleaners around pencils to see who could create the longest curl, as well as looking at who had the curliest hair. We also used our cutting skills to cut out some very curly snakes.

Slimey - what's more slimey than a snail or green gooey slime. We had lots of fun exploring the texture of slime with our hands.

Fury - we blindfolded ourselves to see if we could guess what was fury or slimey just by touch, it was so much fun.

It has been so sunny and warm so we have spent lots of time outside playing in the water, using crates to make cars and building lots of sand castle. We also made our very own ice cream sundaes using shaving foam and glitter as sprinkles, it looked delicious.

In phonics our phoneme of the week is V and in maths we have been looking at part part whole using bananas and apples.

We have had so much fun!

Stardust

This week our story is called Stardust.

Our special words are:

Wish – we have had lots of talks about what we would wish for including big girl paddling pools, dinosaur toys and £100 to buy stickers.

Family – We have drawn lots of pictures this week of who is in our family.

Star – we have been making our very own collage stars using craft materials and decorating more stars using paint and marbles.

Win -  we have been practising our races to see who can win ready for sports day! We have also played lots of games and spoke about how we don’t always win but taking part is just as important.

In phonics our rhyme of the week is wheels on the bus and in Maths we have practised our subitising to five.

In preparation for sports day we have been practising our running and ball skills to make sure we are race day ready.

To end the week and to celebrate the end of NELI, we had a special visit from Mrs Stapleton who presented us with NELI certificates and a special NELI the elephant keyring.

Look and say what you see in the countryside

 

This week our story is called Look and say what you can see in the countryside. It was all about the different animals which live in the countryside and their houses.

Our special words are:

Discover - we went on lots of walks outside this week to see what animals and insects we could discover.

Under - we played hide and seek where we were only allowed to hide underneath objects.

Rest - we have taken lots of time this week to rest especially because of the heat and even enjoyed some meditation.

Home - we have talked lots about our home and who lives there.

We had a visit this week from Andi from Asda who brought us in yoghurt, fruit and granola so we could make our own fruit pots.

We have been cleaning our muddy farm animals this week using soapy water and toothbrushes.

In phonics our phoneme of the week is J and in maths we have been practicing our numbers to five by adding storks onto numbered carrots.

To end the week we had non-uniform day where we wore our summer clothes. You all looked fabulous!

Firefly home

 

This week our book is called Firefly home. Our special words are:

Lost - Neli is lost in the classroom and we need to find her

Fast - We have been having lots of running races to see how fast we can run

Spot - We have been busy cloud spotting, spotting bugs in spaghetti and walking in the woods to see what we can find.

Fly - We have been making paper aeroplanes and seeing how far they can fly.

We have also been shining torches into a tent to create different shadows and painting our very own Florence the Firefly.

We also had a very special visit from our new friends Buttercup and Talulah the donkeys.

The Knight who said No!

 

This week our story is The Knight who said No and our special words are polite, whispers, always and lonely.

This week we had a go at making both 3D and 2D castles using boxes and different shapes, made crowns, learning signs for please and thank you and using our props to retell the story.

To end the week we celebrated with a medieval banquet. We ate special knight food including grapes, bread and cheese, we danced to special knight music and even had a jousting competition.

Our sound in phonics this week was B and our rhyme is Miss Polly.

What a fabulous half term we have had!

Franklin Frog

 

This week our story is Franklin frog. Our special words are push, protect, jump and grow.

Mrs Beckett kindly brought her two tortoises Tiny and Tim in so we could compare their sizes.

We have also been jumping like frogs in P.E, using paper plates to make frogs, cutting and sticking frog life cycle pictures and talking lots about how we can protect ourselves.

We have been reading lots and lots of facts about frogs such as frogs breath and drink through their skin when under water.

Nothing can frighten a bear

 

This week our story is called Nothing can frighten a bear. Our special words are stuck, deep, frighten and wriggle. We have been exploring how bears can get stuck in mud using chocolate powder and cornflour. This was very messy but so much fun.

We have been using different depths of water to understand the concept of deep, making frighten faces and talking all about what makes us frightened.

In p.e we have been looking at different ways we can wriggle to funny sounds.

We were very creative making bear masks, using forks to create the texture of the fur.

Jack and the Beanstalk

This week our story is Jack and the Beanstalk. Our special words are decision, yell, swap and follow.

We have worked really hard following instructions, we have yelled like the giant, swapped our cardigans and shoes and made decisions about what fruit we want to eat.

We have been very busy this week and started off by making our own giant and painting the windows to look like the giants castle with his beanstalk.

We have started to grow our very own beanstalks and have talked about the lifecycle of a bean for our science.

We used playdough to make beanstalks, we’ve practised our cutting skills cutting out the characters and even performed our version of a jack and the beanstalk song.

In maths we have been practising pattern and in phonics our new sound is H.

Dinosaur Rocket

 

This week our story is Dinosaur Rocket. Our special words are brave, moon, splash and quiet.

We have been really brave this week, climbing and balancing on our P.E.

It was so much fun splashing in the water, seeing you could make the biggest splash. 

We tried really hard being quiet during our quiet circle games. 

We watched lots of videos about the moon and the moon landing. We were very creative this week and made split pin dinosaurs.

In maths we continued to focus on subitising and recognising our numerals.

Pip and Posy and the New Friend

 

This week our story is Pip and Posy the New friend. Our special words are sea, beach, collect and dig.

For our creative job this week we have been practising our cutting skills and cutting out pictures to decorate a beach.

We have been digging in mud and collecting lots of treasure, as well as shells and stones.

We have looked lots and lots this week at friendships and how we can be kind to our friends. We even made friendship bracelets to swap with our best friends.

In maths we have been practising recognising our numbers and subitising to number 4.

Our science this half term is all about lifecycles of different animals and plants. The children have been learning all our the lifecycle of a frog, and even had the chance to look at real tadpoles and then drew pictures of them.

Easter and Eid Extravaganza

The Elephants and Giraffes have had a fabulous week celebrating Easter and Eid.  After learning all about the Christian beliefs around Easter and the Muslim beliefs around Eid, the children had an Easter bonnet parade, Easter egg hunt and enjoyed an Eid party. They dressed up in their party clothes, played pass the parcel and ate party food.  It was so much fun!

Little Red Riding Hood

 

This week we have been reading the story Little Red Riding Hood. Our special words are smell, chase, help and delicious. 

We have been retelling the story using different props and even went into the woods to find Grandma's house. 

We smelt lots of different food items and had to guess what each one was whilst wearing a blindfold. 

We have been doing lots of spring paintings this week. We have painted lots of daffodils and lambs.

Andie from Asda came and visited us as well, and we got to make our own dippy apples which we then covered in sprinkles.

To end the week we finished off with an ice cream party! It was delicious!

When a dragon goes to school

 

This week we have been reading the story When a dragon goes to school. Our special words are share, wrap, kind and begin. The story is all about whether a dragon makes good or bad choices at school. But a dragon always makes the right choices.

We have been busy painting dragons, practising our cutting skills, sharing dragon food and wrapping up boxes.

We have had a big focus on sharing this week and talking about all the ways we can share and be kind to our friends. We made our own kindness tree, where we hang hearts off of it when someone is kind to us.

Our new sound in phonics is E.

How to look after your dinosaur

 

This week we have been reading the story How to look after your dinosaur. Our special words are pet, hatch, tired and shy.

We have been paleontologists this week, making our own fossils, hatching dinosaurs from eggs and helping dinosaurs free from ice. We have also painted dinosaurs using Duplo bricks to create the texture of the dinosaurs skin, and used the dinosaurs to make footprints in the shaving foam.

We have also talked lots about our own pets and had a visit from the school guinea pigs, which we all got to have a cuddle with.

Cinderella

 

This week we have been reading the story Cinderella. Our special words are beautiful, fit, invite and clean.

We have been very busy this week making our own crowns and magic wands, dressing up as princesses and princes, and retelling the story. To end the week of reading Cinderella, we had our own Cinderella ball where we waltzed and had party food.

On Tuesday it was pancake day, so we had a pancake flipping competition that was so much fun. Thank you to all the grown ups that stayed for our NELI stay and play. We hope you had as much fun as we did.

Everybody looked fabulous in their World book day outfits.

On Friday we had a visit from Boogie beats where we told the story of Red riding hood and enjoyed playing with instruments.

Happy Pancake Day

We had lots of fun having a pancake flipping contest and then eating lots of delicious pancakes!

Toby and the tricky things

This week in nursery we have read the story Toby and the tricky things. Our special words are pour, big, small, tricky and by yourself.

Toby found lots of jobs tricky to do all by himself. So this week, like Toby, we set ourselves a challenge to put on and zip our coats independently.

We have been busy this week using paint. We painted our hands, printed them and turned them into elephants, as well as using our fingers to finger paint on big and small paper. In our water area we had lots of jugs and cups to practise our pouring skills. On our puzzle table we matched pictures of baby animals to their mothers.

To end the week we had our very own tea party where we poured our own cups of tea and dunked our biscuits.

In maths we have been looking at ways of making five and our new sound in phonics is O.

Copy Cat

 

This week we have been reading the story Copy Cat. Our special words are copy, practise, skip and together.

We have been practising learning how to skip and hula hoop. We also used tracing paper to copy different pictures, worked together to make a puzzle and copied different patterns in porridge oats.

In the story Anna and Bella dress up as pirates, so we decided to have our very own pirate day. We made pirate hats, sailed the seven seas, walked the plank and followed the map to find the treasure.

In phonics our sound of the week is G.

The Three Little Pigs

This week we have been reading the story The Three Little Pigs. Our special words are angry, hungry, build and blow.

We have been really busy making our own pig mask which we wore down into the woods to find the big bad wolf. We have made bubble paintings, made pigs using playdough, retold the story and built houses using straw, sticks and bricks. We also used different materials to create faces on a mat.

In our NELI group this week we worked as teams to build the tallest tower and used our sense of smell to guess different items of food.

In phonics our sound of the week is D.

In maths we have been working hard with subitising.

Don't wake up the tiger!

This week we read the story Don't wake up the tiger. The animals had to sneak past the tiger before surprising him with a birthday party. Our special words this week were float, hurry, stroke and worry. 

We had a look at what objects around nursery would float or sink, made tigers using playdough, found different ways to move a balloon over the tiger and made tiger masks using paper plates.

To end the week we had a birthday party for the tiger and decorated cakes.

In phonics our new sound is M.

Pip and Posy The Bedtime Frog

 

This week we read the story Pip and Posy. Our special words are forget, excited, giggle and pack. In the story Pip and posy eat spaghetti for their dinner, so we decided to have a spaghetti taste test. We also used string to make our pictures, washed the babies in the bath, used the spaghetti to make lion pictures and packed our own suitcases for a sleepover. 

In phonics our sound of the week was N.

Neon Leon

This week we have been reading the story Neon Leon. This story was all about a chameleon who couldn't change colour and match his surroundings like his friends. We looked at some special words from the story and found out what they mean. We looked at the word match, smile, sad and jungle. We also  made our very own neon Leon using orange tissue paper, as well as matching socks with their pairs and hanging them on a washing line. We looked at what animals lived in a jungle, and spoke about what makes us smile or feel sad. What a fabulous busy week.

Our NELI programme

 

In nursery we have started a new literacy programme called NELI which is focused all around language. We will be reading a new story each week and having fun doing lots of different activities with the theme of these stories. We will also be learning lots of new special words each week.

We are looking forward to sharing all the fun we will be getting up to.

Christmas Party Day

We have had a lovely time at our Christmas party.  We played lots of games, ate some yummy food, danced and even had a visit from Santa himself.

Christmas Craft day

F1 had a fabulous day making lots of different Christmas crafts.  We made cards, decorations, party hats, place mats and gingerbread men.

The Gingerbread Man

This week we have been reading the story of the Gingerbread Man.  So during Christmas Craft Day, we decided to bake and decorate our own gingerbread men.  We also made a large gingerbread man for the class and we named him 'Peter'.  The only problem with Peter is, he is a little bit mischievous and he decided to run away. The children looked for him everywhere, under the tables, behind the climbing frame, inside the shed and on the slide.  He was nowhere to be seen.  We finally found him trying to climb the fence.  He is such a cheeky Gingerbread Man.

The Nativity Story

During our English lessons, we have been reading The Nativity Story.  We have been using the Nativity props to re-tell the story, watched the story on the internet and acted out the story.

Be the Change - Bird Feeders

As part of our whole school project, 'Be the Change'.  The nursery children have been learning all about recycling and re-using rubbish.  The children made bird feeders and hung them on our school fence outside our window, so we could watch the birds feed.

Whatever Next!

 

This week, we have been reading the story of 'Whatever Next!'.  We have been learning all about the moon, space and rocket ships.  Then we made a picnic and using a cardboard box for a rocket and a colander for a helmet, we acted out the story and went on a journey to the moon. It was spectacular!

Fun in the Snow!

What a fantastic day we've had today playing in the snow.  We've been making patterned footprints, snowballs and snowmen.  Then we came back inside to warm up with a nice cup of hot chocolate and a biscuit.

Diwali Celebrations

 

Nursery had a special visitor today.  Prashant from the Nottingham Hindu Centre came to teach us all about Diwali.  He told us the story of Rama and Sita, showed us some beautiful decorations and taught us all about how Hindu's celebrate Diwali.  It was really interesting and such fun!

Making Fruit Kebabs

After learning all about the importance of healthy eating.  Andie from Asda came into Nursery to help us make fruit kebabs. We tasted lots of different types of fruit and they were delicious!
