Over the next two weeks, we will be learning how to write a persuasive letter.

We will be writing a persuasive letter to Tenko’s tribe, from Tenko, persuading them to move to Skara Brae with him.

Monday

As a starter, watch the video below which is a song about when to use was and when to use were. After watching the video, complete the ‘Was or were sheet 1’ by filling in the correct word.

Today we are going to learn what a persuasive letter is and what is included within them. Look at the video below which explains the different features of persuasive letter writing. After you have watched the video, can you identify the different features in a persuasive letter? Take a look at the task on Purple Mash.

Tuesday

As a starter, look at the purple mash task ‘Was or were task 2’. Listen to the audio, which will recap our learning from yesterday and then complete the sheet.

Today we are going to plan Tenko’s argument. We are going to think of 3 different arguments why he would want his tribe to join him in Skara Brae. Before we do this, listen to me read the next few pages of The Boy with the Bronze Axe so we can find out how Tenko settles in with the new tribe. Make sure you keep your plan safe, you will need it this week!

As a starter, look at the purple mash task ‘Was or were task 3’. Listen to the audio, which will explain the task and give you some top tips on how to decide when to use was and were.

Today we are going to begin with a quick recap of the features of a persuasive letter. After that, we are going to write commands, warnings and questions for each argument we included in our plan yesterday. Watch me model a few sentences and then have a go at writing your own.

Today we are going to write the introduction to our letter. We need to address the letter, write a greeting and then briefly outline what our letter will be about. Watch my shared write of an introduction and then have a go at writing your own.
