Curriculum

Autumn 2

 

Maths

This term will continue to progress with our learning related to addition and subtraction. We will do this using a range of methods, including drawing our ten and ones and using our number facts. Also, we will begin to understand multiplication as equal groups of number. 

Writing

In English, this half term, our learning will follow a theme of “Frozen

Kingdom”. Our core text is ‘Rainbow Bear’ by Michael Morpurgo. We will be writing to inform by writing non-chronological reports all about polar bears. Additionally, we will be writing to inform by writing letters, inspired by “The Great Explorer” by Chris Judge.

Science

Science

By the end of this half term, we will be able to answer our big question, “how do we choose the best material for an object?”
We will use a variety of working scientifically skills to identify and compare the suitability of a variety of everyday materials for particular uses e.g. building a ship for an Arctic journey.

      Geography

We will be using our geographical skills this half term by using world maps, atlases and globes to identify continents and oceans.  

Computing

We will continue to explore coding and begin to understand what algorithms are.

RE & PSHE

In RE, we will think carefully about what it means to belong. We will also explore the religion Judaism and visiting a synagogue.

Through our PSHE curriculum, we will consider what safe relationships look like and how to respect ourselves and others.

Art and Music

This half term we will be learning about the work of Adonna Khare and Byrant Giles and using their work to inspire us with our own sketches of real-life objects. We will think carefully about how to makes lines lighter or darker, using pencils, chalk, pen or crayon, when drawing.

Throughout this half term in Music we will be working towards making a melody of our own that uses dynamics and timbre to reflect an emotion.

Autumn 1

 

Maths

We have started the term with revisiting and deepening our knowledge of place value. Following this, we will be progressing with our learning of addition and subtraction.

Writing

Our core text this half term is ‘The Pirate- Cruncher’ by Johnny Duddle.


We will be writing to entertain by writing character descriptions of the pirates and a pirate poem. These character descriptions will help us to write our own pirate adventure stories by the end of the half term! 

Science

We are learning about living things and their habitats. We shall be exploring the differences between things that are living, dead and things that have never been alive. We will identify that most living things live in habitats to which they are suited and describe how different habitats provide for the basic needs of animals and plants.

History

We will be looking at the changes over time in an event of our own locality (Goose Fair).

Computing

We will begin by re-capping key skills from the Year 1 computing curriculum and then, we will explore coding and begin to understand what algorithms are.

RE & PSHE

In RE, we will explore Judaism and be able to answer questions about  What do Jewish people believe about God, creation, humanity and the natural world.

Through our PSHE curriculum, we will explore families and friendships.

DT & Music

We will be designers by developing our understanding of mechanisms and making a moving monster that shall crunch up the pirates!

We will be creating sounds to represent three contrasting landscapes: seaside, countryside and city.
