Spring 2
Maths
This term, we will begin to learn multiplication and division and how we can do this with grouping and sharing. We will also be learning about money.
Writing
In English, this half term, we will be writing stories from another culture that we will read to our year 3 children. We will also be writing a diary entry!
Science
By the end of this half term, we will know the importance of
microhabitats and the role they play in the food chain. We will also observe over time the life-cycle of a
butterfly.
Geography
We will be learning about where Kenya is on a map and the similarities and differences between Nottingham and Nairobi.
Computing
We will develop our understanding of how to search effectively using the internet and different websites.
RE & PSHE
Through our PSHE curriculum we will be identifying our star qualities and what we would like to be when we grow up.
Art & Music
In music, we will be using instruments to create call and response rhythms.
In art, we will using the primary colours to recreate the works of art by Van Gogh.
Spring 1
Maths
This term, we will begin to learn multiplication and division. We will do this using a range of methods, including using equal groups, repeated addition and multiplication equations. We will also learn about money.
Writing
In English, this half term, our learning will follow a theme of “Superheroes”. Our core text is ‘Traction Man’ by Mini Grey. We will be writing to entertain by writing a fantasy story.
Science
By the end of this half term, we will be able to tell you what we need to stay healthy by exploring basic human needs and the importance of diet and exercise. We will also be able to understand that animals, including humans have offspring who grow.
History
We will be researching the changes in the last 100 years of travel and transport. We will learn about the Wright brothers first flight and who the first person to land on the moon.
Computing
We will continue to explore coding and what algorithms are and how we can use them for instructions.
RE & PSHE
Through our PSHE curriculum we will be identifying the different communities we belong to and the importance of internet safety. In RE we are learning all about good leaders and what different leaders look like.
Art & Music
We will be creating collages using precise and accuracy.
We will be earning to thread a needle and make a felt pouch.
In music, we will be learning about dynamics, timbre, tempo and motifs with a space theme.
Autumn 2
Maths
This term will continue to progress with our learning related to addition and subtraction. We will do this using a range of methods, including drawing our ten and ones and using our number facts. Also, we will begin to understand multiplication as equal groups of number.
Writing
In English, this half term, our learning will follow a theme of “Frozen
Kingdom”. Our core text is ‘Rainbow Bear’ by Michael Morpurgo. We will be writing to inform by writing non-chronological reports all about polar bears. Additionally, we will be writing to inform by writing letters, inspired by “The Great Explorer” by Chris Judge.
Science
Science
By the end of this half term, we will be able to answer our big question, “how do we choose the best material for an object?”
We will use a variety of working scientifically skills to identify and compare the suitability of a variety of everyday materials for particular uses e.g. building a ship for an Arctic journey.
Geography
We will be using our geographical skills this half term by using world maps, atlases and globes to identify continents and oceans.
Computing
We will continue to explore coding and begin to understand what algorithms are.
RE & PSHE
In RE, we will think carefully about what it means to belong. We will also explore the religion Judaism and visiting a synagogue.
Through our PSHE curriculum, we will consider what safe relationships look like and how to respect ourselves and others.
Art and Music
This half term we will be learning about the work of Adonna Khare and Byrant Giles and using their work to inspire us with our own sketches of real-life objects. We will think carefully about how to makes lines lighter or darker, using pencils, chalk, pen or crayon, when drawing.
Throughout this half term in Music we will be working towards making a melody of our own that uses dynamics and timbre to reflect an emotion.
Autumn 1
Maths
We have started the term with revisiting and deepening our knowledge of place value. Following this, we will be progressing with our learning of addition and subtraction.
Writing
Our core text this half term is ‘The Pirate- Cruncher’ by Johnny Duddle.
We will be writing to entertain by writing character descriptions of the pirates and a pirate poem. These character descriptions will help us to write our own pirate adventure stories by the end of the half term!
Science
We are learning about living things and their habitats. We shall be exploring the differences between things that are living, dead and things that have never been alive. We will identify that most living things live in habitats to which they are suited and describe how different habitats provide for the basic needs of animals and plants.
History
We will be looking at the changes over time in an event of our own locality (Goose Fair).
Computing
We will begin by re-capping key skills from the Year 1 computing curriculum and then, we will explore coding and begin to understand what algorithms are.
RE & PSHE
In RE, we will explore Judaism and be able to answer questions about What do Jewish people believe about God, creation, humanity and the natural world.
Through our PSHE curriculum, we will explore families and friendships.
DT & Music
We will be designers by developing our understanding of mechanisms and making a moving monster that shall crunch up the pirates!
We will be creating sounds to represent three contrasting landscapes: seaside, countryside and city.
