During Spring 1 we will be reading...

 

 

Year 6 Curriculum

 

We are writers...

In our writing lessons, we will be reading When the Sky Falls by Phil Earle. We will be using this book as a stimulus to write a historical narrative opening and a motivational speech. We will be learning about the key features of these genres before planning and writing our own. 

 

We are readers...

In our shared reading lessons, we will be developing our skills by reading and understanding texts across a range of genres – including fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Our main focus will be on understanding vocabulary, improving our inference skills and summarising and sequencing a text.

 

We are mathematicians...

In our maths lessons this half-term, we will be learning about fractions and percentages. Alongside our main lesson, we will continue to recap our previous learning on place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division through our daily maths blast sessions.

Year 6 Summer Curriculum

In our writing lessons, we will be applying all of the skills we have learned this year to a range of different genres including persuasive adverts, discussion texts and narratives.

 

We are readers...

In our shared reading lessons, we will be consolidating our skills by reading and understanding texts across a range of genres – including fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Our main focus will be on understanding vocabulary, improving our inference skills and summarising and sequencing a text.

 

We are mathematicians...

In our maths lessons we will be recapping and practising everything we have learned this year in preparation for SATs. After SATs, we will continue to consolidate the key areas to prepare the children for Maths at secondary school.

In our writing lessons, we will be reading No Ballet Shoes in Syria. We will be using this book as a stimulus to write a persuasive letter. We will be learning about the key features of these genres before planning and writing our own. We will also be writing a first person narrative based on a video clip.

Writing

In our writing lessons, we will be using Harry Potter as a stimulus to write fantasy stories, non-chronological reports and adverts. We will be focussing on improving our language choices, sentence structures and the impact our writing has on the audience. We will also be working hard to improve our spelling and ensure this is applied within our writing.  

 

Reading

In our shared reading lessons, we will be developing our skills by reading and understanding texts across a range of genres - both fiction and non-fiction. Our main focus will be on understanding vocabulary and improving our inference skills. 

 

Maths

In our maths lessons this half-term, we will be learning about addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, and how these can be represented in different mathematical structures. Alongside this, we will be practising our arithmetic skills daily- including times tables for those children who are not yet fluent in them.
