We are READERS!
Phonics is very important in Year 1 as children will take the Phonics Screening Check in the Summer Term. To support our teaching of phonics we encourage children to read at least 3x a week at home, alongside the word cards we send home with our school reading books. These are linked directly with the phonemes the children have been learning that week.
We are WRITERS!
In Spring term we begin using what we have learned in the Autumn term and apply it to our story writing. We will be using the story of Morris the Mankiest monster, writing our own monster stories and learning how to construct a recount about a special visitor in our classroom!
We followed instructions to make Slime!
We are MATHEMATICIANS!
In maths we will be securing and deepening our understanding of numbers to 20. We will also be learning about 2D and 3D shapes. We will be continuing with the mastery number programme from EYFS.
We are SCIENTISTS! We will be learning about different animals.
We are GEOGRAPHERS! We will be learning about the different countries in the United Kingdom.
We are ARTISTS! In Art we are learning to paint like the artist L.S.Lowry.
