Autumn 1

Welcome to Autumn 1…

We are READERS!

This term, your child will 3 times a week at school as part of our Little Wandle Phonics scheme. To support your child with their reading, please read as much as you can with them at home and write in their reading diaries. We encourage children to read at least 3 x a week as home, alongside any extra word cards we send home with your child’s reading book.

If you need any advice or support with how to support your child to read, please email beeches@gladehill.nottingham.sch.uk and I will get in touch as soon as possible.

We are WRITERS!

This term, we have a huge focus of letter recognition and letter formation. This will support your child to become brilliant writers. If you would like any resources to be sent home to support your child further, please ask!

Our theme is under the seas and our key text is Billy’s Bucket by Kes Gray. The children will be using labels and captions to describe sea creatures and we will then explore sentence writing using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

We are MATHEMATICIANS!

We will be exploring place value of numbers up to 20 this term, with a big push on number formation.

We are SCIENTISTS!

We are learning all about plants this half term. There will be lots of exciting opportunities for outdoor learning and we will be holding an ‘excite and engage’ session where parents will be invited in to see the brilliant learning the children have been doing.

We are GEOGRAPHERS!

The children will be learning all about their local environment where they will be planning a walk to their local park at the end of the half term.
