Welcome to year 3!
This half term in literacy we will be focusing on stories set in imaginary worlds. We will be reading ‘Leon and the Place Between’ and discovering the imaginary world in this book and comparing it with magical worlds in other books. We will also be recreating our own version of a magical world setting and writing an exciting story of the events which take place there!
We will be using lots of exciting vocabulary and grammar, such as expanded noun phrases and fronted adverbials, to make our stories magical.
In maths this half term we will be learning the place value of numbers to 1000. We will also be learning how to add and subtract with numbers to 1000 using formal written methods such as the column method.
Please keep practising your superhero maths and times table rockstars at home – it is amazing to have a fast recall of facts!
We are impressed with our recent reading percentage increase. Keep up the good work!
An important way to support your child’s learning at home is to read with them at least 3 times per week. If you child reads 3 times per week at home they will receive a star on their RED TED award!
Our topic this half term is ‘Magical Mayhem’. In science we will be exploring forces and discovering how magnets work. We will also be classifying materials as magnetic and non-magnetic.
We are GOLDEN and we SPARKLE!
