13.7.20  Summer 2 Week 7

5.7.20 Summer 2 Week 6

This week we are focussing on 'Time.' The MyMaths tasks are focussed on this, but time is something which we need to build into our daily lives.  I have attached a clock for you to make to help you practise telling the time, as well of some resources to help you think about what you do at certain times of the day.  Find all the clocks in your house and get practising!

29.6.20 Summer 2 Week 5

This week we are focussing on 2D and 3D shapes.  The MyMaths tasks are based on common shapes which your child needs to be able to name and describe their properties.  Have a look around the house to see what things you can find with those shapes too.

22.6.20  Summer 2 Week 4

This week we are going to be focussing on 'Measures'.  Children in year 2 need to have a good understanding of mass (weight in Kg/ g), length (m/ cm), capacity (l/ ml) and time (past and to).  The MyMaths tasks are the introduction to these units- however children learn measures best through practical activities- so please explore your home- measuring things- length, height, weight, and looking at containers etc.  Ask them to feel how heavy 1Kg is... or 500g, so they begin to understand what it looks like in a practical way- rather than just an abstract written way.

15.6.20 Summer 2 Week 3

This week we will be recapping fractions work on My Maths.  If the children are struggling with fractions, lots of practical work cutting things into half and quarters will help them to understand what the words 'whole, half and quarter' mean.  Below are some additional paper resources and videos to support them futher.

Please let me know if you are unable to log into My Maths

8.6.20  Summer 2 Week 2

This week we will be focussing on division and sharing and your tasks on My Maths link to this.  Please let me know if you have difficulty logging onto My Maths.

If the children are struggling with the lesson, please use the resources below to support their thinking with sharing. Sharing objects onto 'plates' helps them to see that they have to share equally and fairly.  Counting in 2s, 5s and 10s can help them to link their multiplication knowledge by finding 'groups'.  Below is a video which show division through 'sharing' and 'grouping' which they might find helpful:

1.6.20 Summer 2 Week 1

Other resources/ practice sheets are below:

18.5.20  Week 5

This week we are focusing on addition and subtraction in My Maths.  Quite a few of us find subtraction much harder than addition and so I have put on a few tutorials and resources you can use to support your learning.  You need to see be confident drawing or explaining your learning in different ways, so see which method works best for you.

Week 2 27.4.20

White Rose Maths helps develop reasoning and problem solving in Maths, by posing knowledge in different ways.  Here is a link to their home learning page.  Please look at Week 2 to continue our work on Fractions or Summer Term Week 2 to continue the work on length.  The activities are based on the video lessons shown for each lesson.
The following videos are for REVISIT lessons, which your child might enjoy:  Counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.  This would be great practice for building their knowledge for TTRockstars.

1. Build the concept of units of 2 and count the number of groups of 2

The first lesson on multiplication, aimed at Year 1 and 2 pupils.

2. Count in twos and count on from a multiple of 2

3. Build the concept of units of 10 and count in tens

4. Count on from a multiple of 10 and identify the number of tens in a multiple of 10
