Food Glorious Food

This term our topic is  'Food Glorious Food'.

We will be reading some fantastic stories such as Handa’s Surprise, The Enormous Turnip and The Gingerbread Man – and look forward to preparing and tasting lots of exciting fruits and vegetables, as well as baking and preparing sandwiches for our ‘Tiger Who came to Tea’ party. We will be learning all about the traditions of Chinese New Year and are turning our role-play area into a Pizza Shop. We will looking at art work by the artist Arcimboldo and creating our own fruit and vegetable face paintings. We will be weighing fruit and vegetables to see which is the lightest or heaviest and we will be finding out where our food comes from.

Changes to Morning Routine

We really value the importance of reading and story sharing at Glade Hill and think that the Morning Welcome Time is a perfect opportunity for the children to enjoy a story with a grown up! We ask that children enter the EYFS unit at 8.45am and once they have put bags etc away they share a story with you, if you can stay, until 8.55am. F2 children could read some of their reading book. If you recorded this in their reading diary it would count towards the children’s RED TED Reading Award too!  The music will play at 8.55am, as usual to signal the end of story sharing time.

Please say goodbye to your child promptly when the music starts to allow us to settle and start our learning on time.

Developments

Staff are constantly reflecting on the Provision in EYFS and strive to provide the children with fantastic learning experiences. This term we are planning to develop some new ‘workshops’ in the EYFS unit. You will notice some exciting changes to the ‘zones’ over the next few weeks.
