Gruffalo retell by Nursery children

2 of our wonderful Nursery children retold the story of The Gruffalo.

What a fabulous half term we have had learning all about Julia Donaldson stories.

Easter Week!

This week we finished off learning all about Room on the Broom by cutting and sticking the characters onto our own broom sticks. We have really enjoyed reading this story.

To start the week off we all wore purple in support of Epilepsy awareness day, and learnt how this can effect someone's life.

We had a big focus on Easter this week and did lots of fun activities to celebrate this.

We made our own Easter cards for our friends and family. We wore our Easter bonnets to school and did a Easter parade for KS1. Then we made our own chocolate Easter nests which were really yummy. To end the week we all tried some hot cross buns!

Room on the Broom

This week we started our new story Room on the Broom. We have had so much fun retelling this story in our reading area, using the props to help us. We are all fabulous now at singing the Room on the Broom song! We have spoken about our favourite characters from this story and why we like them and decided to draw them. We also got to use lots of different ingredients to make our own potions just like the witch in the story!

We were also treated to a visit from a special author who helped us re tell the story of the Gingerbread man using some amazing props.

We have started to learn some Easter songs this week including our favourite chick chick chicken. We have been so impressed with all the amazing models everyone has been making this week, especially using the duplo and wooden blocks. To end the week, we were visited by some local dentists who talked to us all about keeping our teeth and mouth nice and clean.

Science week

We have had lots of fun this week, with a focus on science. We did an experiment called music makers, where we filled different glasses and jars with water and tapped them with a spoon and listened to the different sounds they made. We also played a matching game where we took photos of different animals and sliced them in half, and then had to match them back together.

We also enjoyed p.e this week, climbing on all the different equipment. We were very brave!

To end the week we raised money for Comic Relief, dressing up in red clothes and playing lots of games. You all looked fabulous!

Squash and a Squeeze

This week we started our new story 'Squash and a Squeeze'. We loved sharing this story and retelling it in our reading area. We enjoyed lots of activities where we had to squash and squeeze, including our painting where we had to squash and squeeze the paint out of a rubber glove. In science we have been listening to different sounds and had a go at pen disco, where we moved the pens to the sound of the music. Thank you to the parents who came in and shared a story with us, we really enjoyed it. We had so much fun learning in the snow!

What a fabulous week we had!

w/c 6.03.23

This week we continued our learning all about the Smartest Giant in Town. We made our friends and family kindness cards thanking them for all their kindness like the animals did for George the giant. We also practiced our cutting skills using a matching activity where we matched the characters from our story and we painted our favourite Julia Donaldson characters. It was also world book day this week and everybody looked fabulous in their costumes. Thank you to the wonderful year 6's who came down and shared a story with us.

The Smartest Giant in Town

This week we have started our new topic of 'Julia Donaldson', which is an author who we all love! For our first story we have been looking at The Smartest Giant in Town. We dressed up as George the giant and made our own giant footprints, we all made our own kindness crowns like George and spoke about how to be kind to each other and learnt the Smartest Giant song. We also spoke about shove Tuesday, and practiced in P.E how to flip a pancake.

Home Learning - Wednesday 24th January 2023

Here are some activities to do at home today. Please send us a picture on Tapestry so we can see all the fun learning you are doing with your grown ups. Don't forget to read your library book and write a comment in your diary.

This week we have been celebrating Chinese and Lunar New Year.

  • Watch the clip below and talk about some of the things the children do to get ready for this special celebration.
  • Red is a lucky colour. Go on a hunt around your house and find five red objects.

RED RIDING HOOD

Click on the link below and listen to the story of Red Riding Hood. If you have the book at home look at the pictures and talk about what is happening. Encourage your child to join in the story.

  • Little Red Riding Hood stopped to talk to the wolf. Was this a good idea? What should she have done?
  • Grandma's lives in the woods. Can you draw a picture of her house? Can you draw some of the animals that live in the woods?
  • Little Red Riding Hood took a basket of goodies for her Grandma. Can you make a picnic lunch for Grandma? What would you put in your basket?
  • Use the following link to listen to the song I Love Red  - Primary Music KS1: Little Red Riding Hood - BBC Teach

Goldilocks and the three bears

This week we read the story Goldilocks and the three bears. We loved learning the Goldilocks song and retelling the story in our Three bears cottage role play area. We also made our own porridge for the three bears and went on bear hunt in the woods. When we got back the porridge was gone, I wonder who ate it all?

Christmas craft day

What a fantastic party day F1 have had.  We ate some delicious food, played party games, danced and had a visit and a present from the man himself, Santa!

Christmas Party Day

F1 have been busy using their creative skills and enjoying 'Christmas craft day'. They have decorated snowmen biscuits, made calendars, cards, decorations and baubles for their trees. Such fun!
