  • Me-vs-Me - Sports Challenge

Mon 24 Apr 2023 Mrs Stapleton

Earlier this week our outstanding Year 4 team have taken part in the 'Me-vs-Me' challenge with the Nottingham City Sports team.

The children had to take part in a number of physical challenges, trying lots of different skills, and were then allocated points based on their performance level overall.

Three boys and three girls across Year 4 were awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze medals for their performance. Well done to these children. You did so well!

The City Sports team will be back to repeat the challenge later this term and the children will try to beat their scores by doing even better in all the activities. I can't wait to see how well they all do!

A big thank you to our Year 6 children who helped support this event, taking the scores and supporting the activities. You were amazing!

  • Welcome back to the Summer Term - Headteacher letter

Mon 24 Apr 2023 Mrs Stapleton

Dear Parents and Carers of Glade Hill,

I hope you all had a lovely Easter break. It has been so lovely to see all of the children back in school and be so keen to get back to their learning.

Our Year 2s and Year 6s have been working really hard and will be taking their SATs later this half-term during May. I am so proud of all their progress and hard work, and I know that this will be reflected in their results. Keep up the good work Team 2 and 6!

We again have lots of exciting curriculum and enrichment activities planned for this half-term, including our Year 4s going to Colwick camp. These enrichment opportunities are an important part of our curriculum at Glade Hill and we are committed to ensuring these continue even with rising costs for transport. Our FROGs parent group are supporting our EYFS trip to Stonebridge City Farm through money raised at the Christmas Productions. Thank you so much to all our FROGs and everyone who supports our school events.

Our Year 3s attended their first swimming lesson this week and impressed everyone with their resilience and enthusiasm. The staff at Southglade Leisure Centre were again very complementary about the children’s attitude and behaviour. Well done Year 3, I can’t wait to come to see how well you are doing in a couple of weeks when I come to visit you there!

Following the success of our updated clubs programme last term, we have now started another round of clubs. We have some new clubs making an appearance this half-term including cooking, choir, book club and pottery! The children who attended this first week had a great time. Nearly all of the clubs for this half-term are now full, but if any children missed the letter please contact the office to be put on the waiting list.

As I have shared with you before, our three Priority Areas for School Improvement this year are: improving the teaching of Writing; improving Attendance; and also developing our Assessment processes.  Teachers and support staff have attended training on how to improve the teaching of writing and how to use assessments to move children’s learning on. We have also introduced a range of new incentives to improve attendance including a ‘5-day attendance challenge’. Overall, as a school we are making good progress towards our targets. This progress has been shared with our Governing Body and also our School Improvement Advisor who both complimented the progress we are making.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and I look forward to seeing you all very soon.
