Glade Hill Primary and Nursery School

We are Golden and we SPARKLE

Headteacher Letter - end of Summer 1

Dear Parents and Carers of Glade Hill,

This half-term has been short but super busy including for our Super Year 6s who were completing their SATs. I am so proud of all their progress and know that they will be very well prepared for secondary schools after all this hard work and commitment to their learning. They have lots to look forward to during their final term at Glade Hill including lots of project learning, transition to secondary school work and various enrichment activities. There will also be our usual Leaver’s Assemblies that are scheduled for Friday 25th July.

Get the tissues ready Year 6 parents and carers!

We again have lots of exciting curriculum and enrichment activities planned for this half-term, including our Year 6s venturing to Boggle Hole in Whitby for their residential. Our Fantastic Year 3s are also going to Walesby Camp for their first residential experience and our Wonderful Year 2s are off to Sherwood Pines for a day in the forest. I know they will all have an amazing time.

As I’ve shared before, these enrichment opportunities are an important part of our curriculum at Glade Hill, and we are committed to ensuring these continue even with rising costs for transport and the closure of the NCC Outdoor Centres. We will continue to review the trips, experiences and visits across the different year groups to ensure breadth of opportunities for all ages. We are also in the process of investigating possible Christmas and Winter trips and visits for Autumn term 2025 which is very exciting. Watch this space!

This half-term our Marvellous Year 5s have been completing the DAaRT programme in their classes. This programme used to be called ‘DARE’ and was completed in Year 6 but we have moved this important experience to Year 5 to better prepare our children for modern life. The DAaRT Primary Programme is designed for Year 5 and 6 students. It is a refreshed and updated version of our successful DARE Primary programme, evaluated by Nottingham University. This programme equips young people with the knowledge and skills they need to transition from primary to secondary school. It also helps them develop the social and emotional skills required to overcome challenges. For more information, check out their webpage. We also celebrated in style during our VE Day celebrations on Friday 16th May. We had a fantastic day dressing in red, white and blue, experienced an adventure in our woods with an Army cadet leader and also held an afternoon tea for elderly residents of a local supported living community. Take a look at some of the photos on our website. Thank you to Mrs Shaw, our parent volunteer Mr Mickle and all the FRoGs for their support and contributions. Finally, as we get ready to begin the final half-term of this academic year, after the half-term break, I would like to thank you for all your support and commitment to your children’s learning. We will be sending out a parent questionnaire next half-term for some feedback on how you view the work we do at Glade Hill and anything you would like to see more of (or less of!) next academic year. Please fill this in as it will be a great help in our planning for next year and I thank you in advance for your constructive feedback.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and I look forward to seeing you all very soon. In the meantime, check out some of the amazing work below from this half-term. What amazing learning!

Kindest regards, Mrs Anna Stapleton - Headteacher
