Headteacher Letter - start of Summer 2

6th June 2024

Dear Parents and Carers of Glade Hill,

I hope you all had a lovely half-term break. It has been so lovely to see all of the children back in school this week and already working so hard with their learning.

Last half-term was super busy including for our Super Year 6s who were completing their SATs. I am so proud of all their progress and know that they will be very well prepared for secondary schools after all this hard work and commitment to their learning. They have lots to look forward to during their final term at Glade Hill including lots of project learning, transition to secondary school work and various enrichment activities. There will also be our usual Leaver’s Assemblies that are scheduled for Friday 25th July. Get the tissues ready Year 6 parents and carers!

This half-term our Marvellous Year 5s will also experience the ‘Great Project’. The Great Project is an education and personal development programme for Upper Key Stage 2, designed to promote healthy relationships and domestic abuse awareness. The aim being to help children stay safe and enter healthy relationships as they get older. All our teaching and support staff attended a CPD training session last year to support our professional knowledge in this area so we can support our children and families in the best way possible. Further information can be found at http://www.equation.org.uk/the-great-project .

As always, if you or anyone you know requires further support or information around this topic, this can be found at: www.junowomensaid.org.uk or www.equation.org.uk/service-for-men/

Towards the end of this half-term, you will also be receiving your children’s end of year reports and letters about their new classes. As you know at Glade Hill we have 2 classes in each year, and sometimes classes may be mixed up when moving to a new year group to ensure an equal mix of numbers, abilities and extra support requirements in each class, as this can change in classes over time. If this will be happening to your child’s classes, this year, we will always inform you when the decision has been made, and please be reassured that we will always try to take into account friendships as far as possible. We obviously cannot guarantee that we can meet all friendship and parental preferences, but the children in each year group will continue to spend time with each other at break and lunch, and also during other whole year group activities.

This time of change in a school is an exciting time, but we also know that for some children this can result in worries and questions. All children will be discussing transition in their classes towards the end of this term, and all children will have their two class swap days on the mornings of Tuesday 15th and Thursday 17th July to spend time with their new teachers and TAs. Some children will also receive some extra support around transition, as agreed with their class teachers or our SEN support team. Please speak to your class teacher if you feel your child would benefit from additional support or you would like to discuss things further. There are also some supportive resources for children and families on the following websites that may be useful:

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and I look forward to seeing you all very soon.

Kindest regards, Mrs Anna Stapleton - Headteacher
