Reading
In our shared reading lessons, we will be developing our skills by reading and understanding texts across a range of genres- both fiction and non-fiction.
An important way to support your child’s learning at home is to read with them. All children are expected to read 3 or more times a week at home. Diaries will be checked every Friday.

Maths
In maths this half term we will be covering everything fractions. We are learning about unit fractions, non- unit fractions, whole and then comparing and ordering fractions too. After, we will explore adding and subtracting fractions as well as finding fractions of a set of objects.
Please keep practicing your times tables at home using tackling tables – it is amazing to have a fast recall of times table facts! If you need a copy of your child’s log in details, please ask a member of the year 3 team.

English
This half term we will be learning how to write an adventure story and a non-chronological report. These will be based on our class book ‘One and only Ivan by Katherine Applegate.’
Lots of our writing lessons will be recapping the techniques we have already learnt this year, such as: subordinating conjunction, choosing powerful vocabulary and layout of a text.

PE
This half term, PE will be on Tuesday and Friday. Our unit in PE is striking and fielding. Children should make sure their kit is in school for each session. I would recommend bringing PE kits to school on a Monday, keeping them in school all week, and taking them home on Friday to be washed over the weekend.

Wider Curriculum
In art we are learning about sculptures.
In science we will be learning about nutrition.
In music we are learning about jazz music.
In PSHE we are learning about our physical health and well-being.
In computing we are learning about simulations.
In history we are completing a local history study about Nottingham Castle
In RE we are learning about the religion Islam.
