We are Golden and we SPARKLE
Reading
An important way to support your child’s learning at home is to read with them. All children are expected to read 3 or more times a week at home. It’s not too late for your child to achieve their bronze award! Diaries will be checked every Friday. Please ensure they are brought in each week. Our class target is 70%!
Writing
This half term we will be learning how to write a disaster story, an explanation text and a poem. These will be based on our class book ‘Escaping the Giant Wave’. Lots of our writing lessons will be recapping the techniques we have already learnt this year, such as: similes, choosing powerful vocabulary and layout of a text.
Maths
In maths this half term we will be covering the topics Statistics, Money, Mass and Capacity and Shape. We will be reading and creating graphs; calculating change; considering the mass and capacity of objects and continuing learning on 2D and 3D shapes and their properties.
Please keep practicing your times tables at home using Tackling Tables – it is essential to have a fast recall of times table facts! If you need a copy of your child’s log in details, please ask a member of the year 3 team.
PE
This half term, our unit in PE is athletics. Children should make sure their kit is in school for each session. We recommend keeping their PE kit in school for the half term, so it is readily accessible.
