Spring 1

Maths

In our maths lessons this half-term, we will be learning about different methods for multiplication and division.

These include partitioning, column method (expanded and short) and the bus stop method for division.

Practising your times tables regularly will really support this!

Reading

In our shared reading lessons, we will be developing our skills by reading and understanding texts across a range of genres - both fiction and non-fiction. Our main focus will be on understanding vocabulary and improving our inference and retrieval skills.

Please make sure you are still reading 3 or more times a week!

Writing

In our writing lessons, we will be using Orion Lost to inspire 2 pieces of writing. The first is a part of a science fiction story, where our character is lost in space. In these stories we will be using prepositional phrases and relative clauses to add description. The second unit is to write a biography of an astronaut, with a focus on formal language, relative clauses and adverbials of time, place and manner.
