Key information
Maths
This half term in maths we'll be focussing on converting between decimals, percentages and fractions! We will be using our prior knowledge to convert tenths, hundredths, thousandths and other key fractions!
Reading
We'll be reading the Greek myths: Daedalus and Icarus and Odysseus and the Cyclops; we'll also read some non-fiction texts about Zeus, Cronus, Pandora and Cerberus. Finally, we'll look at two songs from the Evan Hansen musical.
Writing
This half term we'll be a climax to the Perseus and Medusa myth, a short diary entry from the perspective of a Trojan soldier in the Trojan War, and we'll also be writing a speech - we'll look at some key figures, such as Greta Thunberg and Martin Luther King Jr, who have made particularly important speeches.

Maths
In our maths lessons this half-term, we will be continuing our multiplication and division unit, where we will be multiplying 2, 3 and 4 digit numbers by a 2 digit number and also revisiting the bus stop division method.
After this, we will move onto our second fractions unit of the year – learning to multiply fractions and find fractions of amounts.
Reading
In our shared reading lessons, we will be developing our skills by reading and understanding texts across a range of genres - both fiction and non-fiction. Our main focus will be on understanding vocabulary and improving our inference and retrieval skills.
Writing
In our writing lessons, we have a ‘Whoddunnit?’ theme – trying to solve the mystery of where Salim disappeared to! We will be using The London Eye Mystery to write newspaper reports about his disappearance and then writing our own mystery stories! We will practice using relative clauses, changing sentence structure, using appropriate vocabulary and parentheses.

Geography – natural resources and their uses.
D&T – Textiles: making a stuffed toy.
Science- Materials!
PE- Target games, including foot golf, Finnish skittles and bowls!
Maths
In our maths lessons this half-term, we will be learning about adding and subtracting fractions and different methods for multiplication and division.
These include partitioning, column method (expanded and short) and the bus stop method for division.
Practising your times tables regularly will really support this!
Reading
In our shared reading lessons, we will be developing our skills by reading and understanding texts across a range of genres - both fiction and non-fiction. Our main focus will be on understanding vocabulary and improving our inference and retrieval skills.
Please make sure you are still reading 3 or more times a week!
Writing
In our writing lessons, we will be using Orion Lost to inspire 2 pieces of writing. The first is a part of a science fiction story, where our character is lost in space. In these stories we will be using prepositional phrases and relative clauses to add description. The second unit is to write a biography of an astronaut, with a focus on formal language, relative clauses and adverbials of time, place and manner.

Geography - a study of the local area and how it has changed over time.
Art – Develop and refine Painting skills.
Science- Earth and Space!.
PE- gymnastics, dance and movement
Maths
In our maths lessons this half-term, we will be learning about multiplication and division – including multiples, factors, prime numbers, square numbers, cube numbers and multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000!
We will also be beginning our first units on fractions – looking at equivalence.
Reading
In our shared reading lessons, we will be developing our skills by reading and understanding texts across a range of genres - both fiction and non-fiction. Our main focus will be on understanding vocabulary and improving our inference and retrieval skills.
Writing
In our writing lessons, we will be using When the mountains roared as a stimulus to write a magazine campaign article persuading people to adopt a snow leopard, as well as writing a discussion text, thinking about the advantages and disadvantages to animals being in a zoo!
We will be working on many persuasive writing features and including direct and indirect speech.

Maths
In our maths lessons this half-term, we will be learning about place value, with a focus on place value – understanding the value of digits in numbers and different ways we can make numbers up to 10,000.
We will be using diennes, counters, place value charts and other resources to support us with this!

In our shared reading lessons, we will be developing our skills by reading and understanding texts across a range of genres - both fiction and non-fiction. Our main focus will be on understanding vocabulary and improving our inference and retrieval skills.
Writing
In our writing lessons, we will be using Land of Roar as a stimulus to write Non-Chronological reports, with a focus on relative clauses and technical vocabulary. As well as this, we will be writing our own adventure stories, inspired by Roar – taking our audience on an exciting adventure.
