Meet and Greet Powerpoint- Year 5 and 6

Summer 1

During Summer 1 we will be reading...

 

 

Reading

In our shared reading lessons, we will be developing our skills by reading and understanding texts across a range of genres – including fiction, non-fiction and poetry. 

 

Maths

In our maths lessons we will be recapping and practising everything we have learned this year in preparation for SATs. After SATs, we will continue to consolidate the key areas to prepare the children for Maths at secondary school.

 

Wider Curriculum

Science - Evolution and Inheritance

PE- Striking and fielding

PSHE- Physical health and wellbeing and sun awareness.

 

Key Information

  • Read at least 3 times per week
  • Complete pages in your CGP revision guides
  • PE is on Mondays and Tuesday.
  • SATs Revision club - Tuesday and Thursday for the first 3 weeks of term

Year 6 Curriculum

 

Writing

In our writing lessons, we will be using the text The Island by Armin Greder as a stimulus.  We will be writing diary entries, stories with alternative endings and persuasive letters.

 

Reading

In our shared reading lessons, we will be developing our skills by reading and understanding texts across a range of genres – including fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Many of these will be linked to our half-term book- The Island. Alongside this, we will be doing extra reading work during SATs groups.

 

Maths

In our maths lessons this half-term, we will be learning about: converting measurements; position and direction; and area, perimeter and volume.  Alongside this, we will be doing extra arithmetic learning during SATs groups.

Year 6 Curriculum

 

Writing

In our writing lessons, we will be using our history topic of WWII as a stimulus.  We will be writing letters, short stories and speeches. We will be learning about the key features of these genres before planning and writing our own.

 

Reading

In our shared reading lessons, we will be developing our skills by reading and understanding texts across a range of genres – including fiction, non-fiction and poetry. These will all be linked to our history topic WWII- starting with Goodnight Mister Tom.

 

Maths

In our maths lessons this half-term, we will be learning about: measures, fractions, decimals and percentages. Alongside this, we will be doing extra arithmetic learning during SATs revision groups..

Year 6 Curriculum

 

We are writers...

In our writing lessons, we will be reading Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo. We will be using this book as a stimulus to write a diary entry with tension, a newspaper report and an argument text. We will be learning about the key features of these genres before planning and writing our own. 

 

We are readers...

In our shared reading lessons, we will be developing our skills by reading and understanding texts across a range of genres – including fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Our main focus will be on understanding vocabulary and improving our retrieval and inference skills. 

 

We are mathematicians...

In our maths lessons this half-term, we will be learning about: multiplication, division and fractions. Alongside this, we will be practising our arithmetic skills daily- including times tables for those children who are not yet fluent in them.

We are writers...

In our writing lessons, we will be using Harry Potter as a stimulus to write fantasy stories, non-chronological reports and persuasive adverts. We will be focussing on the audience and purpose for our writing, the impact it has on the reader and how we are going to achieve this. 

 

We are readers...

In our shared reading lessons, we will be developing our skills by reading and understanding texts across a range of genres - both fiction and non-fiction. Our main focus will be on understanding vocabulary and improving our inference skills. 

 

We are mathematicians...

In our maths lessons this half-term, we will be learning about place value and the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). We will also have a daily maths blast session where we will be practising the skills we have already learnt.

 

We are historians, artists, scientists, musicians and athletes...
