Spring 2

Welcome to Spring 2! 

We are READERS! 

We will continue our three reading sessions a week at school but please support your child at home by reading their school reading book. This links closely to the sounds they are being taught at school. Phonics is very important in Year 1 as children will take the Phonics Screening Check in the Summer Term. To support our teaching of phonics we encourage children to  read at least 3x a week at home, alongside the word card we send home with our school reading books. These are linked directly with the phonemes the children have been learning that week.  

We are WRITERS! 

This term we will be focusing a lot on animals and how to care for them! 

We will be writing letters to our special friend Arfy from our book focus 'Can I be your pet?' and we will be receiving a special visit from some animals at White Post Farm. 

We are MATHEMATICIANS! 

We are learning all about numbers up to 20, focusing on tens and ones and we will begin to add and subtract these! 

We are SCIENTISTS!

We will be learning all about the human body! 

We are HISTORIANS!

We will be learning all about The Great Fire of London and will be holding a exhibition to showcase our brilliant learning and creations we will be making. 

We are ARTISTS! 

We will be exploring the artwork of Eric Carle and will be creating collages in the style of his.
