Advice regarding Strep A and Scarlet Fever - UKHSA

Dear Parents and Carers,

Many of you will have heard in the media of the increased number of cases of scarlet fever or 'Strep A', above the levels the Health agency would usually expect at this time of year. We have sent home a letter which provides information regarding the signs, symptoms and the actions to be taken if you think that you or your child might have scarlet fever.

I know as a parent that reports such as this can be very concerning. Please be assured that the effects for most children are mild. However, if you are concerned about your child's health, we would always advise you seek medical attention as soon as you can. Good hygiene practice such as hand washing remains the most important step in preventing and controlling the spread of any infection, and we will be encouraging all children to follow this advice in school.

Kind regards,

Anna Stapleton
