We are Golden and we SPARKLE

Spring 2 update letter

23 March 2021

Dear Parent/Carer

I am writing to you with information about Inset days planned for the Summer Term, Parents Evenings and an update from Mrs Want who is leading on plans to support children to ‘catch up’ any lost learning they have experienced over the last year.  As you know Glade Hill is committed to ensuring all our children feel happy, safe, secure and are learning to the best of their ability.

‘Catch Up’ Funding Information from Mrs Want

I am sure that you will have heard in the news that each school has received some money from the Government to help all pupils get back on track.

Firstly, I just want to say that all pupils have returned with a very positive attitude to learning.  Everyone is working hard and the children seem really pleased to be back at school.  Returning and settling so well has meant that catch up began on the first Monday back!

We are currently working with all our pupils to find out what they have learned and remembered so far this year so we can plan their next steps.  Some children have been doing this in class, in small groups or in a one to one with an adult.  Your child may have come home and said they have had an assessment or check but most will have just seen this as part of our normal school day.  Your child might be assessed by a teacher or a teaching assistant.

We have put some plans together which build on the work we did to catch up in the Autumn Term.  We are targeting all pupils to catch up with missed learning in lots of different ways including targeted support and groupings in lessons, additional group sessions and/or 1 to 1 tuition.  The focus is on reading, writing and maths.  We are currently exploring after school tuition for some pupils.  We will contact you in due course if your child will be included next term.

Inset Days and Last Day of Summer Term

We will be having two Inset Days on 28 and 29 June 2021 to plan for September 2021.  We will break up for the Summer Holidays on Friday 23 July 2021.

Parents Evenings and Reports

This year we plan to do things a bit differently in light of the pandemic

We have not had our usual Spring parents’ evening and we plan to move this to the Summer Term.  However, if you wish to speak to your child’s class teacher before this please make an appointment to speak to them via the class e-mail.  The teacher will arrange an appointment with you during the first two weeks after Easter.

We will send out your child’s end of year report slightly earlier this year and arrange parents’ evenings straight after receiving the report.  Information about transition and new classes will be sent out in the last two weeks of the academic year.  Transition arrangements for Yr 6 will be communicated directly to parents from your child’s new Secondary School.

If you have any questions about anything on this letter please visit our website or contact your child’s class teacher on the class e-mail address.

Kind Regards

Ms Sheppard
