  • Harvest and Wear it Gold Day

Fri 26 Sep 2025 Mrs Stapleton

    It's our Harvest Day!

Look how generous all our community has been, collecting so much food for the Bulwell and Bestwood Food Bank! You are all amazing! Thank you so much!

It is also 'Wear it Gold' day at Glade Hill to raise awareness of the Children's Cancer and Leukemia group charity, a cause close to all our hearts as a former pupil of ours was treated for a brain tumour as a baby, and received support from this charity.

Thank you everyone for participating. You looked amazing! Thank you for all the donations too!

  • Start of Au 1 - Headteacher Letter - 25.26

Mon 08 Sep 2025 Mrs Stapleton

    8 September 2025

Dear Parents and Carers of Glade Hill,

Welcome everyone to the 2025.26 academic year at Glade Hill Primary and Nursery School.

I know this is going to be another amazing year at Glade Hill, and I look forward to seeing all our children show their GOLDEN behaviour and SPARKLY learning. I know that all our staff will be striving to ensure that all children become the best learners that they can be.

Our three Priority Areas for School Improvement this year are:

    • Improving the teaching of Writing to improve outcomes across the school.
    • Improve teaching, provision, experiences and support for children facing barriers to their success such as those who may have “unfair starting lines" in life, for example access to books, healthy food, or a safe place to play. Some children need extra help to have the same chances as others.
    • Support teachers to develop as leaders through training and support. For example, support teachers to develop and improve leadership of different subjects and parts of the school e.g. EY/ KS1/ LKS2/ UKS2 to help all children achieve the best they can in all subjects and at all ages.

One important way that you can support us with these goals, is making sure that your children are in school as much as possible. Research shows that children with over 95% attendance achieve better grades, achieve their best and are happier and more settled in school. We have lots of incentives to celebrate excellent attendance that will continue this year, including class trophies and attendance badges/ medals.

Another way that you can support us with these goals, is by making sure that you read with your child three times a week. Regular practice is essential for progress in reading, and reading is essential for improving achievement in writing and other subjects. We have a fantastic reading reward scheme for all children whereby reading three times a week they can earn prizes such as teddies, notebooks, pencils and books.

I am also very excited to say hello to our new F2 children (Reception) in Amazing Acorns. We hope you are enjoying your learning, and I know that you will quickly settle in and thrive at Glade Hill.

To our Year 6 children, we look forward to you being fantastic role models for our school community, showing us all how to be GOLDEN and to SPARKLE in our learning every day. You have already really impressed me with your mature attitudes and behaviour. Keep up the good work!

Thank you in advance for your support this year, and I look forward to seeing you all soon.

    Kindest regards,

    Mrs Anna Stapleton - Headteacher

Well done to a group of girls from Year 5 who under their own initiative made bracelets and jewellery, and sold these to raise money for the local food bank and outreach work at a local church.

Thank you to them and thank you to all who supported them and brought their products. Such initiative and SPARKLE!

  • Headteacher Letter - start of Summer 2

Fri 06 Jun 2025 Mrs Stapleton

    6th June 2024

Dear Parents and Carers of Glade Hill,

I hope you all had a lovely half-term break. It has been so lovely to see all of the children back in school this week and already working so hard with their learning.

Last half-term was super busy including for our Super Year 6s who were completing their SATs. I am so proud of all their progress and know that they will be very well prepared for secondary schools after all this hard work and commitment to their learning. They have lots to look forward to during their final term at Glade Hill including lots of project learning, transition to secondary school work and various enrichment activities. There will also be our usual Leaver’s Assemblies that are scheduled for Friday 25th July. Get the tissues ready Year 6 parents and carers!

This half-term our Marvellous Year 5s will also experience the ‘Great Project’. The Great Project is an education and personal development programme for Upper Key Stage 2, designed to promote healthy relationships and domestic abuse awareness. The aim being to help children stay safe and enter healthy relationships as they get older. All our teaching and support staff attended a CPD training session last year to support our professional knowledge in this area so we can support our children and families in the best way possible. Further information can be found at http://www.equation.org.uk/the-great-project .

As always, if you or anyone you know requires further support or information around this topic, this can be found at: www.junowomensaid.org.uk or www.equation.org.uk/service-for-men/

Towards the end of this half-term, you will also be receiving your children’s end of year reports and letters about their new classes. As you know at Glade Hill we have 2 classes in each year, and sometimes classes may be mixed up when moving to a new year group to ensure an equal mix of numbers, abilities and extra support requirements in each class, as this can change in classes over time. If this will be happening to your child’s classes, this year, we will always inform you when the decision has been made, and please be reassured that we will always try to take into account friendships as far as possible. We obviously cannot guarantee that we can meet all friendship and parental preferences, but the children in each year group will continue to spend time with each other at break and lunch, and also during other whole year group activities.

This time of change in a school is an exciting time, but we also know that for some children this can result in worries and questions. All children will be discussing transition in their classes towards the end of this term, and all children will have their two class swap days on the mornings of Tuesday 15th and Thursday 17th July to spend time with their new teachers and TAs. Some children will also receive some extra support around transition, as agreed with their class teachers or our SEN support team. Please speak to your class teacher if you feel your child would benefit from additional support or you would like to discuss things further. There are also some supportive resources for children and families on the following websites that may be useful:

  • Headteacher Letter - end of Summer 1

Fri 23 May 2025 Mrs Stapleton

Dear Parents and Carers of Glade Hill,

This half-term has been short but super busy including for our Super Year 6s who were completing their SATs.

We again have lots of exciting curriculum and enrichment activities planned for this half-term, including our Year 6s venturing to Boggle Hole in Whitby for their residential. Our Fantastic Year 3s are also going to Walesby Camp for their first residential experience and our Wonderful Year 2s are off to Sherwood Pines for a day in the forest. I know they will all have an amazing time.

As I’ve shared before, these enrichment opportunities are an important part of our curriculum at Glade Hill, and we are committed to ensuring these continue even with rising costs for transport and the closure of the NCC Outdoor Centres. We will continue to review the trips, experiences and visits across the different year groups to ensure breadth of opportunities for all ages. We are also in the process of investigating possible Christmas and Winter trips and visits for Autumn term 2025 which is very exciting. Watch this space!

This half-term our Marvellous Year 5s have been completing the DAaRT programme in their classes. This programme used to be called ‘DARE’ and was completed in Year 6 but we have moved this important experience to Year 5 to better prepare our children for modern life. The DAaRT Primary Programme is designed for Year 5 and 6 students. It is a refreshed and updated version of our successful DARE Primary programme, evaluated by Nottingham University. This programme equips young people with the knowledge and skills they need to transition from primary to secondary school. It also helps them develop the social and emotional skills required to overcome challenges. For more information, check out their webpage. The DAaRT Primary Programme - Life Skills Education Charity

We also celebrated in style during our VE Day celebrations on Friday 16th May. We had a fantastic day dressing in red, white and blue, experienced an adventure in our woods with an Army cadet leader and also held an afternoon tea for elderly residents of a local supported living community. Take a look at some of the photos on our website. Thank you to Mrs Shaw, our parent volunteer Mr Mickle and all the FRoGs for their support and contributions. Finally, as we get ready to begin the final half-term of this academic year, after the half-term break, I would like to thank you for all your support and commitment to your children’s learning. We will be sending out a parent questionnaire next half-term for some feedback on how you view the work we do at Glade Hill and anything you would like to see more of (or less of!) next academic year. Please fill this in as it will be a great help in our planning for next year and I thank you in advance for your constructive feedback.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and I look forward to seeing you all very soon. In the meantime, check out some of the amazing work below from this half-term. What amazing learning!
