  • Children in Need 2022!

Fri 18 Nov 2022 Mrs Stapleton

We raised £570.40 for Children in Need! AMAZING! Thank you for all the support.

We had lots of fun on Children in Need Day, raising money for this important cause. Our Year 3 and Year 4 classes were busy organising the events and did an amazing job.

We dressed up in yellow and spots, the children played games like 'Guess the name of the teddy' and there were lots of entries to the family bake-off competition.

Thank you everyone for your support and donations.

  • Odd Socks Day 2022 - All together Against Bullying

Mon 14 Nov 2022 Mrs Stapleton

Today we celebrated the start of Anti-Bullying week with an ODD Socks day.  Staff and children were asked to wear odd socks to celebrate and share what makes us all unique and spread kindness!

We had assemblies for all our children this morning where we reminded the children about our STOP rules. STOP stands for bullying being another child doing something to them Several Times on Purpose and that we encourage children to Start Telling Other People. This is an important way we teach children about what bullying is and what children can do if they feel this is happening to them or someone they know, either at school, at home or online.

We have also enjoyed revisiting the 'Andy and the Odd Socks' songs for this important week.

  • Start of Autumn Term 2 - Headteacher letter

Mon 31 Oct 2022 Mrs Stapleton

Dear Parents and Carers of Glade Hill,

I hope you all had a nice half-term break. It has been so lovely to see all of the children back in school this week and ready to learn.

This next half-term is always a busy one, so make sure you check the MarvellousMe app and your emails for updates, reminders and messages regarding all the fun things we are going to be doing in school. If you do not yet have the app, please speak to a member of our Office team who will be able to help you get set up. This app is also used to send ‘badges’ when your child has been praised by a member of staff, so keep a look out.

There are lots of opportunities coming up as well, for you to get involved in school and your child’s learning. There is a ‘Stay and Learn’ for our F2 (Reception) parents and carers, more Excite and Engage drop ins for Year 5 and 6 and a ‘Cuppa, Cake and Chatter’ meeting for parents to learn more about how to support your child’s reading and writing. We will also be having our first parents’ evenings of this year on Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th November, so make sure you return a slip for each of your children with your preferred time slots as soon as the letters go out later this week.

This Friday in our weekly celebration assembly, myself and Mrs Want (Assistant Headteacher) will be starting to announce which classes have the best attendance each week, and these classes will earn extra outside time. Take a look at our website to see which classes won!

Finally, make sure you also check out our website for useful information regarding what your children are learning in their classes. Our teachers have been working hard on the ‘Class Pages’ and they all contain photographs, examples of work and useful links. I hope you enjoy looking at them.

I look forward to seeing you all very soon, kindest regards,

    Mrs Stapleton - Headteacher

  • What a half-term!

Sat 15 Oct 2022 Mrs Stapleton

What a first half-term we have had at Glade Hill! The children have all settled in really well to their new classes and lots of great learning has been taking place. I have been so impressed with their GOLDEN behaviour and their SPARKLE!

We have celebrated Harvest, collecting an ENORMOUS amount of food for the Bulwell and Bestwood Food Bank, reportedly the most ever from a Primary School. Thank you again for your generosity.

We also dressed to impress on our ‘Wear it Gold’ day to show our support for the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG), raising nearly £150 for this cause that is very close to our hearts.

I hope you have been able to attend some of the opportunities for you to become more involved in the life of the school, such as attending our Meet and Greet sessions, dropping in to learn with your children during their Excite and Engage Science lessons or maybe your child received a Special Award in assembly this week.

There are still lots more opportunities to come after our half-term holiday including a ‘Stay and Learn’ for our F2 (Reception) parents and carers, more Excite and Engage drop ins and a ‘Cuppa, Cake and Chatter’ meeting for parents to learn more about how to support your child’s reading and writing. Keep an eye out for upcoming dates and further details.

Please remember that your child having the best possible attendance is an important way that you can support their learning and achievement. Research shows that children with over 95% attendance achieve better grades, achieve their best and are happier and more settled in school. After half-term we will be announcing which classes have the best attendance each week in assemblies, and these classes will earn extra outside time. We will also be celebrating the children with 100% attendance at the end of term in our celebration assemblies.

I thank you in advance for your ongoing support and look forward to seeing you after a relaxing half-term break.

  • Wear it Gold Day!

Fri 30 Sep 2022 Mrs Stapleton

Today we celebrated 'Wear it Gold' day in support of the Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG), a cause very close to our hearts. All of the children looked amazing in their gold, yellow and sparkly non-uniform!

Thank you so much for all the voluntary donations that we will be passing on to the charity.

Take a look at the fantastic photos of our special day!

  • Harvest Donations

Fri 30 Sep 2022 Mrs Stapleton

Thank you so much for all of the amazing donations for Harvest that we will be collected by the Bulwell and Bestwood Food Bank next week.

We have been blown away by the generousity of the school community during these challenging financial times. The number of donations received has been the most ever!

As you know being 'Kind and Caring' is an important part of our school ethos and as always Glade Hill has SPARKLED in this area. It was lovely to celebrate Harvest with the children this morning in assembly and to sing some familiar Harvest favourites.

Take a look at the photos of our amazing collection!

  • Further information - State Funeral, bank holiday and National Mourning

Mon 12 Sep 2022 Mrs Stapleton

Dear Parents and Carers of Glade Hill School,

Following on from the sad news last week that HRH Queen Elizabeth II has died, we have now received guidance from the Cabinet Office and Department for Education (DfE) regarding the period of National Mourning and the State Funeral.

The official date of the State Funeral will be 19 September 2022. This will be a bank holiday and therefore Glade Hill will be CLOSED to all children and staff for this day.

Glade Hill School will observe the mourning period, following guidance, whilst continuing to support our children, families and staff. Unless informed, please assume any scheduled activities and events will continue as planned. Some may be adapted to ensure the tone of them is appropriate. For example, celebration assemblies will be held in classes. We will also commemorate Her Majesty with appropriate events in-school, including creating a school memory book/ book of condolence. Further details to follow.

We will also hold a 1-minute silence, as a gesture of respect, during our school assemblies today (Monday 12th September).

Other than the bank holiday for the State Funeral, normal school attendance is expected throughout the National Mourning period

As I shared in my last email, there are several resources to support you and your children in this difficult time.

There are several resources available on the Winston's Wish website including help to answer questions from children about the Queen’s death and how to support grieving young people affected by the news.

Support for adults with grief for Her Majesty The Queen is also available from Cruse bereavement support at https://www.cruse.org.uk/grief-for-her-majesty-the-queen/

  • The sad news regarding the death of HRH Queen Elizabeth II

Thu 08 Sep 2022 Mrs Stapleton

We are sorry to hear the sad news that HRH Queen Elizabeth II has died, aged 96. We send our thoughts to her family and everyone affected by this news.

In line with guidance from the Department for Education, we will not be holding our usual celebration assemblies tomorrow. Instead, children from Year 1 to 6 will attend short assemblies to help us remember her and celebrate her remarkable life. Children in EYFS will be supported in class by their class staff.

This week's 'Golden' certificates will be given out in class instead and I will be visiting classes to say well done and give the children their stickers.

With regard to how we will respond to children's comments, questions and feelings about the death of the Queen, please see below some advice I have shared with teachers and other staff from the bereavement charity 'Winston's Wish':

    • Children and young people will appreciate time to verbalise their feelings and fears.
    • Allow space for “If only’s...” to be acknowledged.
    • Discussion – allow pupils to share their own experiences of death, eg. “When my pet/my gran died” etc.
    • Be honest about your own feelings and experiences
    • Answer pupil’s questions factually. Avoid using euphemisms like ‘passed away’, or ‘lost’ etc.
    • Use the words dead, died and death to avoid confusion for children.
    • Be prepared for children to say or do the unexpected, experience has shown some responses or apparent lack of response may be upsetting for adults.
    • No apparent response does not mean that a child does not care.
    • It is natural that some children may be upset and/or need time to process information, offer a quiet space for them to go to.

There are also further resources available on the Winston Wish website on how to support children following a bereavement, including someone they did not directly know  https://www.winstonswish.org/supporting-you/

Support for adults with bereavement is also available from Cruse bereavement support at https://www.cruse.org.uk/

Please contact the office if you would like any further information or signposting to support services.
