  • Eat a Rainbow Challenge

    Wed 26 Jan 2022

We, as a school, have set ourselves the challenge of eating a rainbow by trying different fruits and vegetables across the next 4 weeks up until half term.

A try includes anything from a lick to eating the whole fruit. Once your child has tried a fruit or vegetable they can then write it on the correct colour on the rainbow.

We are asking for your child’s sheet to be returned to school on Monday 7 February.

Thank you to all of our families that have kindly donated an amazing amount of toiletries and children's toys for Sunrise House this year.  You are all so generous.

  • Letter from Ms Sheppard

    Mon 17 May 2021

    Dear Parent/Carer

You will be aware through media reports that a coronavirus variant of concern has been identified as becoming more widespread in parts of the country, including Nottingham.  We have been informed that this variant has been identified at Henry Whipple Primary School which obviously is in close proximity to Glade Hill and our community.  I have been reassured by Nottingham City’s Public Health Team that they are working closely with our colleagues at Henry Whipple and their school community.

I am writing to all Glade Hill parents to reassure you that we are all remaining vigilant in school and I would ask you to do the same in the community.  Our staff and children are working hard to remember good hygiene practice as well as staff undertaking regular testing.  Please can we remind you of the ongoing government advice regarding ‘Hands, Face, Space’ and ask you to remain socially distanced when picking up your children from school.

Please remember that if your child has any symptoms of coronavirus – a high temperature, a new continuous cough or a loss of taste or smell – they must not attend school until you have evidence of a negative PCR test.  If anyone in your household has any of the above symptoms then everyone in the household must self-isolate until a negative PCR test has been obtained.  Please inform school of any absence and we will advise you if you need support with testing.  Schools are required to report positive cases to Public Health England and the Local Authority.

Please note that the Lateral Flow tests that are freely available can be used regularly by all families.  However, they should only be used when you do not have symptoms as an indication that you are not asymptomatic.  If your child is displaying any of the symptoms above you must book at a test centre for a full PCR test and inform school of the result.

Further advice regarding the different types of test can be obtained from https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing/get-tested-for-coronavirus/

We hope that you will support us fully in ensuring that we do all we can to prevent this virus spreading and keep our families safe.

    Kind Regards

  • Spring 2 update letter

    Tue 23 Mar 2021

    23 March 2021

    Dear Parent/Carer

I am writing to you with information about Inset days planned for the Summer Term, Parents Evenings and an update from Mrs Want who is leading on plans to support children to ‘catch up’ any lost learning they have experienced over the last year.  As you know Glade Hill is committed to ensuring all our children feel happy, safe, secure and are learning to the best of their ability.

‘Catch Up’ Funding Information from Mrs Want

I am sure that you will have heard in the news that each school has received some money from the Government to help all pupils get back on track.

Firstly, I just want to say that all pupils have returned with a very positive attitude to learning.  Everyone is working hard and the children seem really pleased to be back at school.  Returning and settling so well has meant that catch up began on the first Monday back!

We are currently working with all our pupils to find out what they have learned and remembered so far this year so we can plan their next steps.  Some children have been doing this in class, in small groups or in a one to one with an adult.  Your child may have come home and said they have had an assessment or check but most will have just seen this as part of our normal school day.  Your child might be assessed by a teacher or a teaching assistant.

We have put some plans together which build on the work we did to catch up in the Autumn Term.  We are targeting all pupils to catch up with missed learning in lots of different ways including targeted support and groupings in lessons, additional group sessions and/or 1 to 1 tuition.  The focus is on reading, writing and maths.  We are currently exploring after school tuition for some pupils.  We will contact you in due course if your child will be included next term.

Inset Days and Last Day of Summer Term

We will be having two Inset Days on 28 and 29 June 2021 to plan for September 2021.  We will break up for the Summer Holidays on Friday 23 July 2021.

    Parents Evenings and Reports

This year we plan to do things a bit differently in light of the pandemic

We have not had our usual Spring parents’ evening and we plan to move this to the Summer Term.  However, if you wish to speak to your child’s class teacher before this please make an appointment to speak to them via the class e-mail.  The teacher will arrange an appointment with you during the first two weeks after Easter.

We will send out your child’s end of year report slightly earlier this year and arrange parents’ evenings straight after receiving the report.  Information about transition and new classes will be sent out in the last two weeks of the academic year.  Transition arrangements for Yr 6 will be communicated directly to parents from your child’s new Secondary School.

If you have any questions about anything on this letter please visit our website or contact your child’s class teacher on the class e-mail address.

    Kind Regards

  • Letter from Ms Sheppard

    Fri 18 Dec 2020

    17 December 2020

    Dear Parents/Carers

I know that there have been a lot of communications over the past few days but I just wanted to take this opportunity to say a final thank you for all your support over this past term.  It has been a very challenging time for everyone but I think you will agree that our children have been very resilient and seeing them all enjoying learning and interacting with their friends is wonderful.

Our Covid-secure arrangements within school are working very well and we have been especially pleased with the smooth running of the drop-off and pick-up times.  From January we have decided to make some slight changes to pick-up timings so that parents are not waiting unnecessarily.  The new pick-up times are detailed below and please note the drop-off times that are still in place:

Siblings can still be dropped off at the earliest time and collected at the latest time.  Please can we request that you arrive promptly at your appropriate collection time so that classes do not mix and children are not waiting outside for too long in the cold.  Some members of staff will still be available on the playground if you have a quick question and a member of Office staff will always be available on a Monday and Friday.

I wish you all a safe and Happy Christmas and New Year.  We look forward to seeing you all on Monday 4 January 2021.

    Yours sincerely
